Traffic Hazard East Of Adrian


Bates County Sheriff along with Missouri State Highway Patrol is in route to a vehicle in the roadway that is missing a wheel. The car is located 3 miles East of Adrian on 18 Highway. Unknown which lane the vehicle is blocking. Please use caution when traveling in this area.

UPDATE: Motorcycle Wreck N Highway



Missouri State Highway Patrol along with Bates County Sheriff and Bates County EMS responded to a motorcycle accident Saturday afternoon around 3pm on N Highway 0.8 miles South of County Road 2506. The accident occured when the 2011 Harley Davidson Motorcycle Driven by Eric S. Mills 37, of Drexel Missouri was traveling Northbound on N Highway traveled off the West side of the roadway and over turned ejecting the driver. Mills was wearing a helmet and was transported to Bates County Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. The bike recieved minor injuries and was towed from the scene by a private tow.

Elsie May (Rusow) Howard, 68 of Harrisonville, MO; formerly a longtime resident of Adrian, MO passed from this life at home from a well fought battle of cancer on July 13, 2013. Elsie was born on August 28, 1944 in Horton, MO to Ira Henry Rusow and Georgedine (McGinnis) Rusow. Elsie was the second of four children and an Adrian High School graduate. 


 Elsie and John Ryland Howard were married August 1964. 

 Elsie is survived by two daughters; Tina (Howard) Russo of Harrisonville, MO, and Leslie Howard of Adrian, MO. Two Grandchildren; Sonia Dilks Richardson of Harrisonville, MO and Ryland Howard of Adrian, MO. One Great-grandson, Alexander Richardson of Harrisonville, MO. Two sisters: Henryetta Payne of Lexington, MO and Gatha and her husband Everett Roth of Peculiar, MO.

 Elsie was proceeded in death by her parents, her husband of many years, and a brother, Harvey Rusow.
 Cremation by Stonegate Crematorium under the direction of Mullinax Funeral Home. No visitation or funeral service planned at this time.

Weather Update: Slight Chance For A Shower/Thunderstorm Sunday



A very rare westward moving upper level low pressure will bring some clouds and perhaps a few showers and thunderstorms to the region Sunday. Most locations will remain dry. High temperatures will warm into the middle 80s.

Motorcycle Accident on N highway


Around 3 pm this afternoon Bates County Sheriffs Department along with Missouri State Highway Patrol and Bates County EMS responded to a motorcycle wreck on N Highway 3 miles South of 52 East. The riders were transported to Bates County Memorial Hospital unknown injuries at this time. Bates County Live will update this when more information is available.

UPDATE: Gas Spill At Conoco In Butler



Butler Fire Department along with Butler Police Department responded to Conoco this afternoon around 12:15pm on a gas spill. When they arrived on scene there was 5 to 6 gallons of gas on the ground next to pump 10. Butler Fire Department quickly got it taken care of and everything is all clear now.

ROUTE 54 BETWEEN NEVADA & EL DORADO SPRINGS SET FOR RESURFACING BEGINNING WEEK OF JULY 15

Vernon Through Cedar Counties -- Route 54 between I-49 in Nevada and Route 32 near El Dorado Springs is scheduled to be resurfaced beginning the week of July 15. The Missouri Department of Transportation has said that crew will begin work at I-49 in Nevada and progress toward El Dorado Springs.
During this project there will be 18 miles of Route 54 between I-49 in Nevada and Route 32 in El Dorado Springs resurfaced, concrete shoulders along Route 54 in Dederick resurfaced, and edge-line and center-line rumble stripes on Route 54 installed. The Prime Contractor is Chester Bross Construction Co. of Palmyra. The cost of the construction will be $2.3 million. The date of completion is late September, but the contractor has plans to complete the project well ahead of the deadline.
The traffic impact to expect will include: one-lane traffic where crews are set up, pilot vehicles to lead drivers through work zones, flaggers to direct traffic through work zones, nighttime lane closings when crews reach El Dorado Springs as crews will only work at night between the hours of 7PM and 7AM. Other than the nighttime workers near El Dorado Springs the rest of the project will take place during the day.
