Official Press Release House Fire on AA Highway Friday 8/30/13


The Adrian Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched at approximately 11:30 a.m. on Friday, August 30th  on a reported house fire on AA highway approx. 1/2 mile west of the railroad tracks. Adrian Fire units arrived finding heavy smoke & fire, with all occupants out of the home. Butler Fire Department responded automatic mutual aid assistance and several other fire departments were called in to assist due to the extreme heat conditions with the temperature that day being near 100 degrees. 





The home was a total loss and the fire department assistant chief requested The Red Cross be contacted to assist the family of four. 

The fire was determined to be accidental in nature caused from a grease fire on the stove. The Bates County Ambulance provided care for fire fighters throughout the incident making sure that the fire fighters safety was top priority. Bates County Sheriff's Department and State Highway Patrol were on the scene providing traffic control allowing additional incoming fire units to have clear and quick access to the scene. Additional fire units responded from: Central Cass Fire, Harrisonville Fire, West Peculiar Fire, Garden City Fire, Drexel Fire, and Amsterdam Fire Department was placed on standby coverage for additional call/s in the Adrian area.

The Adrian Police Chief responded at the request of the fire chief, and provided additional rehab supplies for the emergency responders. A huge thank you to everyone involved and we appreciate the great teamwork that is always provided.

Obituary - James A. "Jim" Welton

93-year-old James A. "Jim" Welton, El Dorado Springs, passed away Sunday at Cedar County Memorial Hospital. Arrangements are under direction of Sheldon Funeral Home, El Dorado Springs, and services are scheduled at ten o'clock Wednesday morning at the funeral home with burial planned in the Coal Hill Cemetery. The family receives friends between six and eight o'clock Tuesday evening at Sheldon Funeral Home.

Raynard “Ray” Marvin Endecott, 89 of Drexel, Missouri passed away September 1, 2013 at his home.
He was born May 1, 1924 in Miami County, Kansas, son of Howard and Caroline Mae (McDonald) Endecott.
Raynard was a World War II Veteran, having served in the Signal Corps. He was a lifelong resident of Miami County, Kansas. His family and friends will always remember him as a good man.  Raynard was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Albert and Orin Chester; and sister, Beulah (Endecott) Vickers.
He is survived by his wife, Helen (Nichols) Endecott of the home; four sons: Randall M. Endecott and wife Kathy of Kansas City, Missouri; Stephen R. Endecott and wife Kay of Whitehouse, Texas; Walter L. Endecott and wife Patti of Pleasanton, Kansas; and Philip D. Endecott and wife Linda of Fairway, Kansas; seven grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Minor Traffic Accident Between a Truck and Motorcycle In Butler


Butler Police Department is on scene of a minor 2 vehicle accident in the Wal-Mart parking lot. The accident is between a truck and a motorcycle. No reports of injuries or significant damage to the vehicles. Bates County Live will update if there is any further information.

Obituary - Glen Lee Westhusing

FUNERAL MASS will be held for Glen at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Montrose, Missouri on Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. OFFICIANT will be Father Tom Hermes. VISITATION/ROSARY will be at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Montrose, Missouri on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 with visitation from 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. with the Rosary following at 7:00 p.m.INTERMENT will be in St. Ludger’s Cemetery, Germantown, Missouri.

The family suggests that a MEMORIAL can be made to Germantown Cemetery Association.Glen Lee Westhusing, son of Louis and Caroline (Cook) Westhusing was born January 21, 1925 in Germantown, MO. He passed away Saturday, August 31, 2013 at Appleton City Manor Nursing Home, at the age of 88.After graduating from St. Ludger’s Elementary School, Glen worked as a farmhand in the Germantown community prior to moving to Kansas City where he worked at Folgers Coffee and for the railroad.

Glen married Alice Greufe, a former classmate, on January 13, 1948, at St. Ludger’s Catholic Church in Germantown. They made their first home in Clinton, MO, where Glen was employed as a route driver for Coca Cola Bottling Co. They eventually moved to Butler, MO, where Glen was employed by Hurt Distributing Co., followed by driving for the U. S. Postal Service. After he retired, they moved to Montrose, MO, where he drove part-time for the Postal Service.

Glen had a wide circle of friends and always enjoyed visiting. His Catholic faith was an important part of his life. He made it a priority to never be late for church services. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Glen was an avid baseball fan and was a player/manager of the Germantown team during the 1950’s and ‘60’s. While living in Butler, Glen and Alice enjoyed playing cards with a group of friends. A Golden Wedding Celebration in their honor was hosted by their nieces and nephews in 1998 and was greatly appreciated. Glen was present at the Westhusing family reunion in June of this year.

Glen was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Dave (Hazel) Westhusing, Elmer (Caroline) Westhusing, Linus Westhusing, and Clyde “Bud” Westhusing; sister, Eunice (Cletus) Schussler; brother-in-law, Greg Schussler; as well as his parents-in-law, Ted and Clara Greufe; brothers-in-law: Bonnie Greufe, Ludger (Joe) Greufe, Howard Greufe, Leland Greufe, Joe Grinzinger, Erwin Vogel, and Joe Burrough.

Glen is survived by his wife of 65 years, Alice of the home in Montrose; sister, Arlene Schussler; sisters-in-law: Dorothy Westhusing, Benita (Greufe) Grinzinger, Bea (Greufe) Vogel, who assisted with his in-home care, Ellen (Greufe) Burrough, and Evelyn (Hennessey) Greufe; and many nieces and nephews.

James Douglas Beason, age 35 of Clinton, Missouri passed away Thursday, August 29, 2013 at Golden Valley Memorial Hospital, Clinton. James was born in Independence, Missouri, the son of Clarence Ivle Beason, Jr. and Gayle Marie (Shelton) Beason. He worked for Miller Seed Company for the past three years.

He is survived by his wife, Melissa(Missy) K. Crowl of the home; three sons, Devin Reed of Blue Springs, Missouri, Dakota Corvin-Beason and DrakeFine-Beason, both of the home. ; one daughter, Jade Flora Beason of the home; one brother, Ivle Joseph Beason and wife, Heather of Clinton, Missouri; three sisters, April Kawn Kirk of Maitland, Missouri, Cindy Marie Chestnut of Skidmore, Missouri and Quetina Kay Wylie of Pickering, Missouri; his step mother, Diane Beason of Skidmore, Missouri; his maternal grandmother, Judy M. Shelton and his father and mother-in-law, Lloyd and Ann Crowl, all of Blue Springs, Missouri.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Vansant-Mills Funeral Home of Clinton.

Ronald J. Faulkenberry age 53, of Clinton, Missouri passed away Monday,September 2, 2013 at his home.


Among the survivors includes his wife, Lisa of the home; two sons, Jeff Faulkenberry of Clinton and T.J. Faulkenberry of Blairstown, Missouri and one daughter. Kelly Marriott of Calhoun, Missouri.

Press Release Fatality at Sparrowfoot

BOAT FATALITY ACCIDENT AT SPARROWFOOT



A 35-year-old man has drowned in Truman Lake after he suffered an apparent medical condition as he was getting ready to retrieve his boat.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says James Beason of Deepwater was backing his vehicle on the Sparrowfoot boat ramp Thursday when the medical emergency occurred. The vehicle and trailer entered the water, and Beason became trapped inside.

A bystander managed to pull Beason from the vehicle and place him in a boat. An ambulance crew rushed him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Possible Natural Gas Leak In Butler


Butler Fire Department along with Liberty Utilities are in route to a possible Natural Gas leak. The leak is located around the area 0f 805 W. Mill Street here in Butler. Bates County Live will update this when more information becomes available.
