Three positions will be available on the Miami R-I School Board. If you are interested in running for one of these three positions, you may file at the superintendent’s office. 
Filing begins on December 17th at 8am and will continue through January 21st at 5pm. 
Stop by the school during business hours, Tuesday through Friday from 8 – 4 except during the Christmas Holiday vacation - December 24th – January 1, 2014.
Board members will hold a three-year term.


 No matter how long it’s been since your loved one died grief can make the holidays a painful time. An encouraging seminar that will help you survive the holidays and discover new reasons to enjoy them again will be held on Saturday, December 14th from 9 11am at the Friendship Full Gospel Church, 1101 West Mill Street in Butler.

Rich Hill 4th Of July Committee Soup And Chilli Dinner

The Rich Hill 4th of July committee will have a free will donation soup and chili dinner before the Christmas Caravan on December 18th starting at 5 pm in the Rich Hill Grade School caf├ęteria. All proceeds go to provide entertainment for the 2014 4th of July celebration.


HARRISONVILLE - MoDOT closed the East Outer Road Bridge over I-49 one mile northwest of Harrisonville Tuesday following a routine inspection that showed continued deterioration of a structural element.

The bridge, which connects Rockhaven Road with Peculiar Drive over I-49 northwest of Harrisonville, already is scheduled for bearing rehabilitation and deck replacement in 2016. It carries about 150 vehicles per day.

MoDOT inspectors are at the bridge evaluating the structure to determine the viability of making interim repairs now or letting the planned construction contract far sooner than originally scheduled. Even interim repairs - if possible - are expected to take days or weeks.

St. Clair County Sheriff's Office Press Release: Scooter stolen

On Dec. 9, Kim Wilkins reported a red and black 49cc scooter was stolen from her property located at the intersection of Seventh Street and Chestnut Street, Appleton City. Wilkins noted the scooter was chained to a barn. She said the rear fender was damaged and the right mirror was missing. Evidence was located at the scene and a request for prosecution was signed. The investigation is ongoing.


Adrian Bank’s Customer Appreciation day will be Friday, December 20 at all branch locations except their Adrian location. The Adrian location will postpone their customer appreciation until after the construction is completed.

Burglary At Butler Sonic

Around 1:36am on Tuesday morning the Butler Sonic was broken into and money was taken. The person/persons made entrance buy breaking a window out on the North side of the building. The Butler Police Department has someone in custody for questioning in this burglary. Bates County Live will update this when the official press release is passed on to us.

Minor Traffic Accident In Butler

Around 10am this morning the Butler Police Department responded to a 1 vehicle accident on Orange Street right in front of Typhoon Bay Car Wash. The accident occurred when the 2000 Lincoln Town Car was traveling North bound on Orange and traveled off the right side of the roadway and into the ditch. The driver wasn't injured and needed no medical treatment.

St. Clair County Sheriff's Office News Release: Warrant Served

On Dec. 4, Daniel Ball, Jr., Montrose, was arrested on a warrant for failing to appear in court on a felony probation violation. The warrant was issued on Nov. 4 and bond was set at $5,000 cash only. 

Ball was placed on five years supervised probation in September 2010 after he entered an Alford plea and was found guilty in a case charging him with class C felony burglary in the second degree. The charge stemmed from an incident in July 2009. Ball is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 17.   

Endangered Silver Advisory Alert

The Kansas City Police Department has issued an Endangered SILVER Advisory for a missing adult incident that occurred at 1749 Kansas Ave #4 at 9:30 PM on 12/08/2013.

The endangered SILVER advisory missing adult is:
Anthony Stillwell, a black male, age 65, hgt 6'6", 200 lbs, black hair, brown eyes, wearing unknown clothing.  

Diagnosed Medical Condition(s):  Dementia, schizophrenia

Brief circumstances regarding the Endangered Silver Person incident:
  Subject was last seen at 9:30 PM on December 8th. At around midnight his wife woke up and found he was not in the apartment. When he did not return by the following night she reported him missing. Stillwell does not drive and there are no known family or friends in the area.

Anyone seeing the missing person, suspect, associate, or vehicle, or anyone having any information related to the endangered missing person should immediately dial 911 to contact the nearest law enforcement agency or call Kansas City Police Department at 816-234-5043.
