Bates County Sheriff's Department: Power Outages


Advisory: We are experiencing some power outages in the area. So if you have a emergency kit and candles please have them available for use crews are working to get all power and roadways cleared. if you don't have to be out please stay inside.

Power Outage In Butler


The Butler Police Department and Butler Electric Department is on scene of a blown transformer on the corner of Pine and Orange Streets here in Butler. Also Gale Lane and Orange Street has power lines down over the roadway The crews are working hard to restore power to the area. Bates County Live will update any and all power outages.

UPDATE: 1 Vehicle Rollover Accident On Northbound I-49


Around 2:35PM this afternoon the Missouri State Highway Patrol along with Bates County EMS and Adrian Fire Department responded to a 1 vehicle rollover accident on I-49 and Mile Marker 137.2 just North of Passaic. The accident occurred when the 2005 Dodge driven by Joel B. Iles 26 years old of Nacogdoches Texas was traveling Northbound on I-49 traveled off the roadway and overturned coming to rest on its top. A passenger in the vehicle 23 year old Samantha  E. Pitts of Nacogdoches Texas received moderate injuries and was transported by ambulance to Bates County Memorial Hospital. Both occupants in the vehicle was wearing seatbelts. The vehicle was totaled and towed from the scene by Dons Tow Of Butler Missouri.

Butler Police Involved In Short Foot Pursuit


On Friday Night December 20th, 2013 around 11pm the Butler Police Department was called to the Alley Bar on Chestnut Street to remove a patron from the business. Upon  arrival the officers observed the male at the corner of Delaware Street and Walnut Street. When the officer attempted to make contact with the man when he took off running North on Delaware Street. 

The Officer gave chase and a short foot chase ensued. The suspect was taken into custody in the 400 block of Havana Street. The male subject was identified as 21 year old Roy Love of Butler. The male subject was arrested and taken to the Bates County Jail.

1 Vehicle Accident On Northbound I-49 Just South Of Adrian


Missouri State Highway Patrol along with The Adrian Fire Department and Bates County EMS is in route to a 1 vehicle motor vehicle accident at Mile Marker 140 on Northbound I-49 South of Adrian. Unknown at this time of any injuries in this accident. Bates County Live will update this when the information becomes available.

Weather Update: Winter Storm Ongoing



Freezing rain and sleet will intensify this afternoon and transition to snow by around sunset. Ice accumulations will be heaviest on either side of a line from Linn County Kansas to around Macon County Missouri, where up to a quarter inch of accumulation is possible. Trace amounts to about a tenth of an inch can be expected north and west of that area. Heavy snow will fall along and northwest of the I-35 corridor making travel extremely difficult tonight. Bitterly cold temperatures will overspread the region Monday through Tuesday with windchill values as low as minus 25 degrees by Tuesday morning.

1 Vehicle Rollover Accident On Northbound I-49


The Adrian Fire Department along with Bates County EMS and The Bates County Sheriff's Department is on scene of a 1 vehicle rollover accident on Northbound I-49 at the Passaic Exit. The female driver is out of the vehicle and has a unknown leg injury. Bates County Live will update this when and if more information becomes available.

Radio Station Shut Down



Fm92 radio station is currently off the air. Due to the extreme ice on the fm tower we have lost power on the fm side. 1530, our am side will be on until 5pm tonight and will then go off the air. Adrian Optimist Club Students Of The Month

The Adrian Optimist Club is pleased to honor Students of the Month from the Miami, Ballard, and Adrian schools.  Criteria for this honor center on outstanding academic and civic achievement and school spirit.  Staff at each of the schools make the selection, and their decision is based on expansion of these criteria.   Selection is based on the criteria, but a student stepping up to a particular task will come to play in it.  Each student is honored with a certificate of recognition from the Adrian Optimist Club and $20.00 in Adrian Chamber of Commerce “Chamber Bucks”.


The Adrian Student of the Month for December is Drew Scott.  Drew, a senior, is the son of Brent and Kari Scott.  He is very active in Adrian school in FCCLA, FBLA, Basketball, Baseball, and National Honor Society.  Drew stays very active outside of school with soccer, being a pool lifeguard, and serving as representative on his church administrative council.  Drew will be advancing his education at a college yet to be chosen.

The Ballard Student of the Month is Jacob Kennedy, sophomore son of Billy and Monica Kennedy.  Physical Education instructor, Samie Hill, states “Jacob has been an exceptional student in all aspects of the school.  Jacob was nominated for his outstanding citizenship skills.  He is always the first one to help another student or teacher. He is always kind to others and when asked to complete a task, Jacob does so with no questions, and lots of times, works beyond what is asked of him.  He has a genuine care of other’s needs and always puts himself last.  Jacob is always striving to do better both in and out of the classroom.

Brooklyn Popplewell is the Miami Student of the Month for December.  Brooklyn, a freshman, is the daughter of Michelle and Patrick Popplewell.  In school she participates in FFA, band, track, volleyball, and basketball.  Outside of school, Brooklyn is in 4-H and plays the piano.  Becoming a nurse is Brooklyn’s plan for after high school.  Social Studies teacher Bob Anderson says, “Brooklyn is a conscientious student.  She is mature beyond her years and always strives to do what she is asked.”

1 Vehicle Rollover Accident on 52 East


Around 5am this morning the Missouri State Highway Patrol along with the Bates County Sheriff's Department responded to a 1 vehicle accident on 52 East Highway and County Road 7505. The accident occurred when the 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier driven by 37 year old Jennifer M. Hutchison of Whitewater, Wisconsin was traveling Eastbound on Missouri 52, The vehicle attempted to pass a Modot truck and began to slide on the ice covered roadway. The driver lost control and crossed the roadway, and traveled off the left side of the roadway and overturned. A passenger in the vehicle 19 year old Melissa A. Mireles of Appleton City Missouri received minor injuries and refused medical treatment at the scene. The driver also received minor injuries and refused medical treatment at the scene. Both was wearing a seatbelt and the vehicle was totaled.

Weather Update: Winter Storm To Impact Weekend Travel


A major winter storm is moving in, and here are our latest snow and ice forecasts. 

Ice will be the main concern for the daylight hours today, and some of this ice could be heavy if you live near Butler, Sedalia, Columbia and points south. Be prepared for power outages and extremely slick conditions if you live in these areas. Some icing will make it as far north as KC and Kirksville.

Later tonight snow will develop from Kansas City to Kirksville and points north. Some of this snow could be heavy at times.
