2 People Injured in Cass County Crash

Two persons were injured in a two-vehicle accident on April 12 in Cass County on I-49 at the 160 mile marker.


Timmy L. Rhoades, 29, Harrisonville, Missouri who wearing a seat belt, northbound in a 1992 Ford F-150, was merging from an exit ramp and sideswiped a 2007 Saturn Outlook northbound by Danica M. Harris, 24, Topeka, Kansas and also wearing a seat belt.

Two passengers in the Harris vehicle were injured. Sarah E. Mosqueda, 28, Topeka, KS, wearing a seat belt, had minor injuries. Nyajia N. Washington, 12, Topeka, KS, wearing a seat belt, experienced minor injuries. Both were transported to the Cass County Medical Center by Harrisonville EMS.

The Rhoades vehicle had minor damage and was driven from the scene.The Harris vehicle had minor damage and was driven from the scene. 

Missouri Highway Patrol Trooper R.J. Hastings investigated the accident and was assisted by Corporal J.E. Thuss.

UPDATE: 18 wheeler roll over accident on I-49



Around 5:25pm this evening the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Bates County Sheriffs Office, Butler Fire Department and Bates County EMS all responded to a 1 vehicle 18 wheeler rollover accident in the Southbound Lanes of I-49 around mile marker 125.4 (Rattle Snake Hill ). 

The accident occurred when the 2014 Freightliner driven by 61 year old Harold E. Mayor of Joplin, Missouri traveled off the left side of the roadway and over turned in the median. 

Mr. Mayor was transported by Bates County ambulance to Research Main Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri with moderate injuries. The semi truck received moderate damage and was towed from the scene by M&M Towing.

Weather Update: Snow in April????



The storms are past, and here comes the cold. Gone are the 80s, hello 30s and 40s! Well, we're headed back to winter briefly on Monday as high temperatures struggle to climb out of the 30s. We could even have a bit of snow Monday morning, with VERY light accumulations. Yes, accumulating snow is possible Monday morning!

The big weather story will be very cold temperatures Monday night. A hard freeze is expected, and could produce severe damage to area growers and those with green thumbs who started early on your gardens.

Butler Man Escapes Injury In Platte County Missouri Traffic Accident

On Sunday April 13 around 3:00pm The Missouri State Highway Patrol along with Kansas City Police Department and Kansas City Fire and Rescue responded to a 2 vehicle accident on I-29 in Platte County.

The accident occurred when the Southbound 2002 Pontiac driven by 61 year old Barbara J. Mead of Kansas City, Missouri was cut off by a dark colored unknown vehicle. When she swerved to miss the vehicle she over corrected and was then struck by a 2002 Dodge Ram driven by Larry C. Murray 50 years old of Butler, Missouri. 

The Pontiac then skidded off the roadway and struck a ditch, Barbara Mead received serious injuries and was transported to North Kansas City Hospital by ambulance. Both of the vehicles received moderate damages and was both towed from the scene. Mr. Murray wasn't injured in this accident and everyone was wearing a seatbelt.

The Bates County Sheriffs Office has been in contact with Osage Valley representatives. They are experiencing power outages and their Office backup generator has failed cause their phone system to be down. Please have patience as they are working on the problem and hope to be up and running shortly

Osage Valley Electric Cooperative Power Outages

Osage Valley Electric Cooperative has several  reports of power outages in the Butler area. We are also experiencing an outage at the office and a failure of our back up generator, which has caused a failure of our phone system. We are working to correct these problems as quickly as possible. I will update here as soon as phones are up and going.

The weather is getting warmer and unfortunately this means property crimes increase. The Butler Police Department would like to remind everyone to lock your vehicles and doors to prevent becoming a victim.

Power Outages In Butler

The city of Butler is experiencing several power outages at this time due to the storm. The City of Butler crews are working hard at this time to restore power to everyone. Unknown at this time how long it will take please be patience.

Obituary - Etta Lou Abraham

Funeral services for Etta Lou Abraham will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) in Butler, Missouri with Minister Felix Salazar officiating.  Visitation will be prior to services from 10-11 a.m. at Schowengerdt Chapel.  Burial in Oak Hill Cemetery, Butler, Missouri.  Contributions to Heartland Hospice.

Etta Lou Abraham, age 85 of Butler, Missouri died Sunday, April 13, 2014 in Butler.  She was born December 21, 1928 to Daniel Clion and Ruth Beatrice Batschelett Wisdom in Clinton, Missouri.

Etta Lou is survived by two sons, Danny Abraham and wife Mary of Blue Mound, Kansas and Steve Abraham and wife Sara of Butler, Missouri; one daughter, Patty Plunkett of Butler, Missouri; one sister, Mildred Boehler of Butler, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Joey Plunkett and wife Trish, Brandon Plunkett and wife Heather, Jennifer Gatzke and husband Chris, Stacy Cobb and husband Matt, 
Bradley Abraham and wife Kathy and Mike Abraham and wife Jennifer, Ryan Abraham; 12 great-grandchildren, J.D., Joe, Scott, Leah, Kenny, Kole, Emily, Caroline, Gabe, Gavin, Peyton and Laney; and one great-grandson one the way.  She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; one son, Larry Abraham; son-in-law, Ralph Plunkett; one brother, Elvin; and an infant sister, Wanda.

Butler Police Department Press Release: Stolen Property Recovered

The Butler Police Department, assisted by the Bates County Sheriff’s Office and Missouri State Highway Patrol, have taken a subject into custody at 304 W Clark St in Butler for possession of stolen property. 

The Butler Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying some of the recovered property.

18 wheeler roll over accident on I-49


The Butler Fire Department along with The Bates County Sheriff's Department and Bates County EMS is in route to a 18 wheeler that has rolled. The location of this rollover is on Southbound I-49 and mile marker 124 just South of Butler. 

The accident will be around the Rattlesnake Hill area on the interstate. Bates County Live will update this when the official accident report becomes available by the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Severe Thunderstorm Warning in Bates County

The National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill,  Missouri has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Bates County Until 6pm. The storm is capable of producing up to 60 mph winds and 1/4 size hail. Bates County Live will update this when new weather updates are available.

Severe weather possible through this evening

The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch to be in effect until 7 pm tonight. Bates County Live will continue to provide updates as they become available.

Obituary - Marvin D. Seider

Marvin Delbert Seider

Funeral Services for Mr. Seider will be held at Zion Lutheran Church in Prairie City, Missouri on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at 10:00 a.m with  Pastor Lowell Rossow and Pastor David Herald officiating .The Interment will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery Prairie City, Missouri. The family suggest Memorial gifts can be made to Heartland Hospice, Zion Lutheran Church or Zion Lutheran Choir.

Marvin Delbert Seider, 86, son of Clarence Albert and Hulda Louise (Fischer) Seider, was born January 27, 1928 at home on the family farm in Bates County, Missouri. He passed away peacefully April 12, 2014 in Appleton City, Missouri.

In his youth, Marvin attended Bever Grade School and Rockville High School. He was united in marriage to Arleta Mae Hellwig in May of 1950 and to this union two sons were born. Marvin’s entire life was spent farming in Prairie City. He was never happier than when he was in the field. It amazed him how farming had changed through the years from driving a team of mules to today’s farming with modern equipment complete with “auto steer” so they could work after dark. Marvin always said that he never got anything new that wasn’t better than the old equipment he got rid of.
     
Marvin was baptized in 1928 and confirmed in 1940 into Prairie City Zion Lutheran Church at an early age and was a faithful member attending regularly until his health failed.   Throughout his life he enjoyed singing in the choir and served in many capacities, holding various offices within the church.
     
Preceding Marvin in death were his parents and his wife. Survivors include his loving and faithful sister, Darline Fischer; two sons, Wayne Seider (Deborah) and and Larry Seider; two granddaughters, Stacey Lawson and Whitney Mott (Cole); one grandson, Brian Seider (Laci); six great-grandchildren: Maylen and Reece Lawson, Cooper and Caydo Mott, Bo and Audree Grace Seider; nephews, cousins and many friends.

Weather Update: Strong - Severe Storms Possible Today

The Showers and thunderstorms rapidly developing across KC metro and points south, brining some much needed rainfall to the area. Maybe some small hail in the stronger storms, but the real threat comes later as we warm into the 70s ahead of a strong cold front. Severe thunderstorms may develop rather early this afternoon over eastern Kansas (1 PM or so) and move through west central and central Missouri during the mid-late afternoon and evening. The bulk of our expected rainfall also comes with this later activity.

Nevada Woman Arrested In Bates County

On 4/13/14 around 3:15am The Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested 29 year old Ellen N. Coons of Nevada, Missouri. She was arrested on 1.) Felony Possession of a controlled substance, 2.) Misdemeanor possession of Marijuana, 3.) Unlawful use of a drug paraphernalia, 4.) 1 Misdemeanor Nevada PD Warrant. She was booked into the Bates County Jail and he current status is listed as bondable.
