Congratulations to the Varsity girls for a 1st place finish at the 87th Archie Tournament! Also a congratulations to the Varsity boys on a 2nd place finish! 

We are also very proud of the Butler High School players, coaches, cheerleaders, and fans for receiving the sportsmanship award at the Archie Tournament.

Ben Alburtis 80 of Independence, Missouri formerly of Harrisonville, Missouri departed this life on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at the Villages of Jackson Creek, Independence, Missouri surrounded by love and family.

Updated Obituary - Norma J. Brundridge

Norma J. Brundridge
Norma J. Brundridge, 65, Rich Hill, MO passed away on Thursday, January 26, 2017 at Select Specialty Hospital in Springfield, MO. Norma was born August 10, 1951 in Oklahoma City, OK to Logan C. and Mildred (Baker) Files.

Norma was raised in Nevada and attended school here. She also lived in California at various times. Norma was employed by 3M in Nevada for 25 years until her retirement. She enjoyed fishing, hunting, and being with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was known for always being there for everyone in a time of need.

Survivors include three children, John Newton, Algoa, MO, Pepper Jacobs, Rich Hill, MO, Misty Brundridge, Rich Hill, MO; three step-sons, Chris Brundridge, IL, Jamie Brundridge, Nevada, Jason Brundridge, El Dorado Springs, MO; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one brother, Eddie Files, Nevada; two sisters, Kathy Araujo, Riverside, CA, Dee Murphy, Nevada; numerous nieces, and nephews; and her “200” adopted children. She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Ronni “Cissy” Newton; one son, Mark Anthony Newton; and one sister, Mona Files.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Rev. Terry Mosher officiating. Interment will be held at Click Cemetery, Nevada. The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to the family in c/o Ferry Funeral Home.

Congratulations is in order

Harrisonville Police Department Sgt. Brian Kincaide was honored with the Steven P. Rauscher Leadership Award during last night's Employee Recognition Dinner. With him are Harrisonville City Administrator Happy Welch and Mayor Brian Hasek.

Structure fire early this morning in Nevada

On 1/28/17 around 12:40am the Nevada Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 808 S. Clay Street in Nevada.

When fire crews arrived on scene they found a active fire in the garage area of the home.

The cause of the fire was accidental in nature and the amount of damages were estimated to be around $45,000.

No one was injured in this fire and crews remained on scene almost 2 and half hours battling several flare ups.

Warm Temperatures Continue

Above normal temperatures for late-January will continue through early next week. Look for clouds to begin moving back into the area late this afternoon into the evening hours. Scattered flurries may be noted this evening into Sunday morning, especially across north central and northeast Missouri.

House fire Friday night in Nevada

On 1/27/17 around 6:00pm the Nevada Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 115 E. Hickory Street in Nevada.
When crews arrived on scene they found a small single story wood framed structure with fire located in the living room area of the home.
The fire crews gained entry to the residence through a back door and they were able to get the fire under control.
After a investigation the cause of the fire was accidental in nature and damages totaled $5,000. No one was home at the time of the fire.

Update: Butler teen injured in rollover accident East of Passaic

18 year old Kameron G. Williams of Butler sustained serious injuries in a single car accident about 1.5 miles east of Passaic on route D highway around 8:30 this morning.

The Missouri Highway Patrol says Williams was eastbound in a 2007 Honda Civic when the vehicle crested a hill and became airborne causing the driver to lose control. 

The vehicle left the roadway, struck a fence, a tree and overturned before coming to a rest in a creek bed. Troopers say he was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Williams was transported by medical helicopter to a Kansas City area hospital for treatment.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Adrian fire department, Butler fire department and the Bates County sheriff's office.

Alice (Hansen) Hood
Alice (Hansen) Hood, 85 of Overland Park, Kansas passed away January 25, 2017 at Overland Park Regional Medical Center. Cremation, with memorial services 10:30 am Saturday, February 4th, 2017 at Rolling Hills Presbyterian Church, 9300 Nall, Overland Park, Kansas.

Alice was born June 20, 1931 in Exira, Iowa to Charles and Clara (Petersen) Hansen. She graduated from high school in Atlantic, Iowa and attended beauty school in Des Moines, Iowa. Alice returned to Atlantic and worked there in a salon until she met Clyde B “CB” Hood, Jr. They married November 29, 1953 in Atlantic and moved to Kansas City, Missouri and then later Overland Park. Besides raising four children, Alice worked a variety of retail positions including at Suzee’s, Dahl’s and Walmart. After CB’s death in 2012, Alice continued living in their Overland Park home until 2016 when she moved to Evergreen Nursing and Rehabilitation in Olathe, Kansas.

Alice was proceeded in death by her parents, husband, sisters Mildred (Hansen) Larsen, Virginia Hansen, Charlene (Hansen) Davis and Mary Ann (Hansen) Hood and her brother Charles Hansen. She is survived by her son Clyde B Hood, III (wife, Jerri), daughters Celeste (Hood) McBride (husband, Jamie), Sarah (Hood) Mannering (husband, Mike), Rebecca (Hood) Allison (husband, Frank), grandchildren Justin Hall (wife, Morgan), Tyler McBride, Hannah McBride, Garrett McBride, Allison Mannering, George Mannering, great grandchildren Oliver Mannering, Pearl Hall, Eleanor Hall, Hazel Hall and a host of nieces and nephews

Darlene D. Riffle 83, Harrisonville, Missouri departed this life on Friday, January 27, 2017 at Kansas City Hospice House, Kansas City, Missouri.

Teen dies in Harrisonville house fire

CASS CO – Deputies with the Cass County Sheriff’s Office and several fire departments responded to a house fire in the 17000 block of E. 278thSt. Harrisonville just around 12:15 AM Saturday morning.

Responders were notified of a possible trapped person inside the house.  A Cass County deputy first on the scene attempted to locate the person however their attempts were stopped by severe heat and smoke inside the residence.

Fire crews from Central Cass County Fire Protection District, Harrisonville, Dolan West Dolan, West Peculiar, and Garden City responded to the scene.  Fire crews located the victim deceased inside the residence shortly after arriving.

The victim has been identified as Saylor Johnson, 16, Harrisonville. 

Two other family members escaped the fire.  The victim’s mother, Erica Chaney and step father Gary Chaney were transported to a metro hospital for treatment.  No one else was in the residence at the time of the fire. One deputy was treated at a local hospital for smoke inhalation.

Investigators at the scene do not believe the fire is suspicious.  The exact cause has not been released at this time.

The family has requested privacy at this time.

Craft fundraiser underway

 Despite cool temps, volunteers are manning their posts in an effort to collect money for the Craft family of Butler.

Collections are happening in Passaic, the stoplight near Walmart and Caseys in Butler until around noon today.

Accident east of Passaic

The  Adrian fire department is currently assisting Butler fire at the scene of of single car accident about 1.5 miles east of Passaic on D highway.

A medical helicopter is in route to the scene. Please use caution if traveling through the area.
