Stolen vehicle in Passaic

On June 28, 2017 a Sergeant with the Bates County Sheriff’s Office took a report of a stolen truck from a residence on County Road 8004 in rural Passaic. 

The victim stated that when he returned home around 5:15 that evening he noticed his truck was missing from in front of his shop.

The stolen truck is a 2007 Chevrolet 2500 4X4. It is silver in color with a regular cab and a long bed. The truck has a front license plate of 27B5BN.

Obituary - Donald Lee Struble

Donald Lee Struble
Donald Lee Struble, age 63, a resident of Fort Scott died Saturday, June 24, 2017, at Mercy Hospital of Fort Scott. He was born July 11, 1953, in Key West Florida, the son of Donald Lee Struble and Dorothy Irene Hubert Struble. 

He drove and maintained a truck for many years. Don was always very helpful and loved working on computers and cars, and could fix anything.

Survivors include his mother, Dorothy Struble of the home, two brothers, Ron Struble of Kansas City, Kansas, Thomas Struble of Panama City Beach, Florida, one sister, Debbie Rather, of Mulvane, Kansas; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Struble.

There was cremation. Rev. Chuck Russell will conduct a memorial service 1:00 P.M. Thursday, June 29, 2017, at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Memorial are suggested to the Don Struble Memorial Fund and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main, P.O. Box 347, Fort Scott, Kansas 66701. FIREWORK INFORMATION: Guys and gals, the 4th is one of my absolute favorite times of year, and with each year, I get at least a few calls and texts from friends asking what the rules are for days (and hours) that you can legally discharge your wrapped bundles of booming awesomeness. Here's the rundown for within Harrisonville city limits.

Fireworks an legally be discharged within city limits of Harrisonville from July 1st to July 4th.

On the 1st - 3rd, legal hours of discharge are 7am to 10pm, while the 4th, hours are extended from 7am to midnight.

One dead after tractor accident in Cass County

On June 13th the Cass County Sheriff's Office investigated a tractor accident which resulted in the death of the property owner. 

While en route dispatch advised that Dolan fire personnel had arrived on scene and determined that the victim, later identified as Gary L. Burns 69 year old of rural Cleveland, Missouri was deceased. 

The Jackson County Medical Examiner arrived on scene and took custody of the victim’s body.

Brenda Brady, 44 of Hume, Missouri passed away June 27, 2017 at Bates County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services are pending at this time.

Search warrant in Eldorado Springs leads to arrest

On June 23 2017, officers of the El Dorado Springs Police Department, assisted by Cedar County Deputies, served a search warrant at 500 East Fields #8, after receiving information of illegal drug activity. Evidence of illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia were located.

The investigation resulted in the arrests of Charles L. Croan Jr., 32, of El Dorado Springs, for the charge of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He was released on summons pending a court appearance. Additional and charges are expected in this investigation.

Obituary - Carl Edward Hicks

Carl Edward Hicks
Carl Edward Hicks Carl Edward Hicks, 71, Kansas City, MO (formerly of Schell City) passed away on Sunday, June 25, 2017 at Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City. Carl was born December 1, 1945 in Schell City, MO to Charles Arthur and Helen (Fischer) Hicks. On January 27, 1998 he was united in marriage to Stella Hale of Sedalia, MO, and she survives of the home.

Carl was raised in Schell City and graduated from Schell City High School Class of 1965. Following high school he became a truck driver at the age of 18. Carl worked for KC Transfer (Carroll Ball Transport) from 1986 until 2016. He was baptized July 21, 1985 at the First Baptist Church in El Dorado Springs. Carl has attended Bannister Road Baptist Church since 2006. He enjoyed fishing, camping outdoors, gardening, and spending time with family.

In addition to his wife Stella, survivors include two sons; Donald Peters (Stephanie), El Dorado Springs, Shane Edward Hicks of the home; one daughter, Brittany Hicks of the home; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Marion Brown; two brothers, Charles Hicks, and James Hicks.

Memorial services will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at Lewis-Hoagland Funeral Home in Schell City with Pastor Dwight Scott officiating. The family will receive friends from 4-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday prior to the service.

Accident at intersection of 18 Highway and KK Highway

The Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County is currently on scene of a one vehicle accident on Missouri 18 Highway and Route KK which is east of Adrian at this time. 

No one is said to be injured in this accident and one person is said to be in police custody at this time.

Missouri State Highway Patrol Sgt. C. Joey Day To Be Promoted To Lieutenant

Captain Jerry C. West, director of the Training Division, General Headquarters, Jefferson City, MO, announces the following promotion effective July 1, 2017:

Sergeant C. Joey Day is being promoted to the rank of lieutenant and assigned as assistant director of the Training Division, General Headquarters, Jefferson City, MO.

Day was appointed to the Patrol on July 1, 1994, as a member of the 67th Recruit Class. After graduating from the Patrol’s Law Enforcement Academy, he was assigned to Troop F, Zone 6, Morgan and Moniteau counties.

On August 1, 1999, he was promoted to corporal and assigned to Zone 12, Gasconade County. On May 16, 2001, he transferred to Troop F, Zone 7, Cooper and Howard counties. Day transferred from Troop F to the Training Division, General Headquarters, as an instructor on January 1, 2006. He was promoted to sergeant on February 4, 2007, and remained in his assignment as an Academy instructor.

Lieutenant Day was born in Springfield, MO. He grew up in Parkville, MO, and graduated from Park Hill High School in Kansas City, MO, in 1991. He attended both the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, MO, and Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, MO. Lt. Day has two children, Madison (18) and Connor (16).

Updated Obituary - Alvin Gene Flippin

Alvin Gene Flippin age 88 of Harrisonville, Missouri departed this life Monday, June 26,2017 at Kansas City Hospice House, Kansas City, Missouri surrounded with family and love.

Alvin is survived by his two sons, Stanley Flippin of Harrisonville, Missouri and Mark Flippin and his wife Debbie of Selah, Washington; two daughters, Donna Woolery and her husband Clifford and Sharon Wright and her husband Steve all from Harrisonville, Missouri; eleven grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services will be held Satrday, July 1, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at the Freeman Baptist Church, Freeman, Missouri with burial in the Freeman Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Saturday, July 1, 2017 from 9:00 a.m.- 10:00 a.m. at the church.

Final arrangements are under the care of Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri.
