From the Desk of Harrisonville Mayor Brian Hasek

Harrisonville Mayor Brian Hasek
I am writing to reflect on a post I made about the removal of historic monuments and statues in our country. I have since deleted that post because it had a negative tone.

We are dealing with some real hatred in this country right now and to make a post that contains hateful comments is not the way to deal with this.

Two wrongs do not make a right. I could have expressed my opinion without those statements and I would like to apologize for my hateful remarks.

I am appalled at the actions of these so called "Hate" groups and they seem to bring out the worst in us at times which I believe is part of their goal.

We are all Americans and there is no room for hate, bigotry or racism in Harrisonville or anywhere else in this country.

Armed Robbery with Shots Fired in Joplin

On August 17, 2017 at 3:34 AM Officers with the Joplin Police Department responded to Casey’s General Store, 403 North Main, for a panic alarm. While officers were on the way, a witness called 911 to report the store was being robbed.

Officers arrived and set up a perimeter on the store. As officers approached, one of the female employees then exited the store with a rifle that they had fought away from the suspect. Clinton man arraigned for hindering prosecution

Jacob M. Johnson
Jacob M. Johnson, 27, Clinton, was arraigned on Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2017, for hindering prosecution of a felony in connection with the murder of Police Officer Gary Michael.

The Honorable Wayne Strothmann, Associate Circuit Judge of Henry County, presided over the arraignment which began at 3 p.m. in the Associate Circuit Courtroom.

Arraignment, with Johnson in custody at the Henry County Jail, appeared by video. A large delegation of Clinton Police Officers were present as well as other law enforcement officers and interested citizenry.

Judge Strothmann advised Johnson of rights. A not guilty plea was entered. In answer to a question posed by Judge Strothmann in regard to whether he had an attorney, Johnson said he did not. He applied for a Public Defender. Judge Strothmann continued the case to Sept. 15, 2017, beginning 9 a.m.

A probable cause statement indicates that Johnson told a citizen informant on the day after the shooting that Ian McCarthy, who murdered Officer Michael, had been wounded in his posterior through rounds being fired by Officer Michael, and was no longer in Clinton. During an interview with law enforcement on the same day, Johnson denied having recent contact with McCarthy. On Aug. 9th, when Johnson heard that McCarthy had been arrested in Urich, he observed, "How did he walk from Bucksaw, that's not where I dropped him off," indicate probable cause public record court documents.

Johnson is being held on a $25,000 cash-only bond.
