Memorial Fund now set up for Presley Dawn West

A Memorial Fund has been set up at all Community First Bank branches in c/o Presley Dawn West/Larry West to cover funeral expenses for our sweet granddaughter. 

She was a beautiful little sweetheart for the 12 days we got to spend with her.

Obituary - Athel G. Hyder

Athel G. Hyder, 84, Nevada, MO passed away on Friday, January 12, 2018 at Nevada Nursing and Rehab in Nevada following a lengthy illness. Athel was born June 16, 1933 in Stockton, MO to Clarence Albert and Sara Elizabeth (McClure) Hyder. On May 10, 1956 he married Jeraldine Pyle in El Dorado Springs, MO and she survives of the home.

Athel was born and raised in the Stockton area. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Following his years in the service he came back to Vernon County and worked on a dairy farm for a number of years. He also worked at the Nevada State Hospital for an additional 20 years until his retirement. Athel was a member and past Commander of the American Legion in Nevada. He loved fishing and going camping.

In addition to his wife Jeraldine he is survived by four children, Karen Mosher and her husband Terry, Nevada, Gean Hyder and his wife Cathy, Nevada, Judy Luther and her husband Donnie, Nevada, Linda Dulaney and her husband Ralph, Montevallo, MO; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Leon Hyder, and also an infant son; two brothers, Otha Hyder, Virgil Hyder; and one sister, Thelma Henson.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Rev. Terry Mosher officiating. Interment will follow in Wagner Cemetery, Stockton, MO. The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made in his memory to Vernon County Cancer Relief in c/o Ferry Funeral Home.



Obituary - Ruby Elaine Mitts

Ruby Elaine Mitts, 70, Milo, MO passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2018 at Nevada Nursing and Rehab in Nevada following a lengthy illness. Elaine was born August 3, 1947 in Nevada, MO to Gene Douglas and Ruby Mae (Wright) Williams. She married Steven Mitts on November 21, 1978 in Hattiesburg, MS and he preceded her in death.

Elaine grew up in Nevada and graduated from Nevada High School in 1965. She attended Ft. Scott Community College and received her Bachelors of Nursing Degree. Elaine worked 19 years at the Nevada State Hospital and an additional four years at Heartland Hospital in Nevada. She then worked for an additional 20 years as the Director of Nursing in nursing homes in Branson and Ozark, MO until her retirement. Following her retirement in 2001 she moved to Milo.

Elaine enjoyed sewing, crocheting, quilting, playing cards, playing dominos and dice with her family, and spoiling her other children, her dogs. She attended the Milo Baptist Church.

Survivors include her children, Bill Householder, Jr., Lamar, Jack Householder and his wife Monica, Richards, Missy Householder, Milo, Troy Householder and his wife Jennifer, Nevada, Tim Mitts, Lamar, Steven Mitts, Jr., Joplin, Tonya Dickerson, Springfield, MO; numerous grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; mother, ruby Craft, Milo; five brothers, Doug Williams and his wife Janice, Laurel, MS, Danny Williams and his wife Blanche, Nevada, Ed Williams, Nevada, Kevin Williams, Milo, Ronnie Williams, Sheldon; two sisters, Margie Carpenter and her husband Brad, Milo, Donna Conway and her husband Charlie, El Dorado Springs, MO; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her husband Steve she was preceded in death by her father, Gene Douglas Williams; step-parent father, Nelson C. Craft; one brother, Michael Williams; and one grandson, Anthony Barnes.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 15, 2018 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Pastor Jim Davis officiating. Interment will follow in Milo Cemetery in Milo. The family will receive friends from 4-6:00 p.m. on Sunday evening at the funeral home.


Memorials are suggested in her memory to the Milo Baptist Church in c/o Ferry Funeral Home.



Food Drive In Butler





Update: Shed fire this morning in Butler

On Friday, January 12 at 10:05 a.m. the Butler Fire Department was dispatched to 402 South Main for a report of a shed on fire with someone possibly inside. 

Units arrived on scene and found a small shed fully involved. The fire had also spread to another shed and the outside of the house. 

The house was vacant and no victims were located. There were no injuries.

Structure Fire In Barton County

On January 12th 2018 the Barton County Sheriff's Office received a 9-1-1 call of a chicken house that had caught on fire. The fire was on Northwest 60th Road just off of V highway in Barton County.

The Lamar fire department along with the Barton County Sheriff's Office responded to the call. 

The fire is believed to have been accidental with a motor that may have shorted out and set the insulation in the wall on fire.

BREAKING: Structure fire in Butler

The Butler fire department, along with Rich Hill and other local departments are responding to a structure fire at 402 S. Main street. The structure is reported to be heavily involved and other buildings are possibly in danger as well.
