Obituary - Maurice "Moe" Raymond Higginbottom

Funeral services for Maurice "Moe" Raymond Higginbottom of Belton, Missouri will be 11 a.m. Friday, January 19, 2018 at the Southview Christian Church in Grandview, Missouri with Pastor Tom Worstell officiating. 

Visitation prior to services from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, January 19 at the Southview Christian Church. Arrangements under the direction of the Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) in Butler, Missouri.

Maurice "Moe" Raymond Higginbottom, age 75 of Belton, Missouri died Friday, January 12, 2018 at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. He was born October 20, 1942 in Calgary, Canada. Moe retired as Assistant Fire Chief of the Grandview Fire Department.

Moe is survived by his wife, Patty Higginbottom of the home in Belton, Missouri; a son, Dan Higginbottom and wife Kim of Cleveland, Missouuri; a duaghter, Linda Higginbottom of Ontario, Canada; and three grandchildren, Brandon, Daniel Geordon and Hunter. He was preceded in death by a son, Timothy Earl Higginbottom in 2006.

Obituary -Richard A. (Rick) Miller

Richard A. (Rick) Miller passed away on January 12, 2018, at home, surrounded by is family, after a short battle with cancer. He was assisted in his final days by Heartland Hospice who did a great job making him comfortable.

Rick was born, December 2nd 1953 in Clinton MO to Tom J. and Lillian E. (Schill) Miller. He resided in Clinton his entire life. Rick was a local entrepreneur who either owned or co-owned several businesses in and around the Clinton area. He started Golden Valley Amusement in 1982. The business sold and serviced video games, juke boxes and other electronic entertainment devices to local establishments. he opened the Newsroom Bar and Grill in 1986. In 1997 he opened the Brite & Shiny car wash on Ohio Street. He was a hard working (and hard playing) man and was very proud of his businesses.

Rick had a passion for Classic cars. He was especially fond of Impala’s and restored several to them to their former glory. He passed on that love to his children, who all have a fondness for classic cars rather than anything new. He was an excellent mechanic, often doing his work for free, (just to help someone out.) He was a great father, and grand-father, a loyal friend and a wonderful man.

Rick is survived by six children. Nichole Johnson (Mike) of Simpsonville SC, Brandy Watson (Mike) of Odessa, MO, Richart Miller (Samantha) Clinton, Kerri Foreman (Adam) of Liberty, MO. Ericka Miller (Noah) of Grandview and Caitlyn Miller of Clinton, two sisters, Patricia Corum of Clinton and Kathy Hook (Garry) of Clinton; three brothers Frank Miller (Sally Wood) of Warrensburg, John Miller (Donna) of Decatur AR and George Miller of Ottawa KS. Eleven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Many nieces and nephews and many, many, friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Sue Ann Miller and a brother James Remer.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday Jan 16th at Audie’s Place on Center St. from 6 – 8 pm. Please come by and share your favorite “Rick” story with his family and friends.

The family would like to express sincere thanks to Scott, Linda and Vi from Heartland Hospice for making his transition a calm and peaceful event. Your work with our family was a true Godsend.

In lieu of flowers the family would like donations made to Heartland Hospice and left in care of Consalus Funeral Home, 209 S. 2nd St., Clinton, MO 64735.

Obituary - Kamey Dee Fleener

Kamey Dee Fleener, 60, passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2018 at Olathe Medical Center in Olathe, KS. Kamey was born December 20, 1957 in Nevada, MO to Kenneth D. and Marcella F. (Hamilton) Scism.

Kamey grew up in Nevada graduated from Nevada High School with the Class of 1976. She has lived in Xenia, KS since 2013.

Survivors include one son, Steven Fleener and Nikoh Pitts, Bronson, KS; one daughter, Lisa Church and her husband Adam, Bronson, KS; 11 grandchildren, Savanah, Shawn, Gabriel, Emma, Sophia, Tallas, McKenna, Treyton, Ashton, Kirston, and Kennedy. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Tina Barnett officiating. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at the funeral home.

Police Pursuit ends in Bates County

Around 3:00am this morning the Bates County Sheriff's Office assisted Linn County,Kansas with a pursuit of a vehicle that ended  west of Rich Hill around the area WW Highway and CR 6007.

The pursuit started around 1:30am in Linn County, Kansas and continued into Bates County were it crashed into a field.

The subject fled on foot and later was take into custody by a K9 Deputy. Mid America Live News will update when more information is made available to us.

Did someone order some snow?

In a effort to get the snow lovers out there the snow they desire, we will offer up this stat: It has been 1438 days (2/4/14) since KC has experienced a 3" or greater snowfall...this is the longest stretch on record. 

This is over a year longer than the second longest at 1018 days! However, it does appear that we will fall short of that mark this time around as well. Here's the details on the weekend snow:

One arrested in Barton County On No Bond Warrant

On 01-11-2018 at around 3:30 p.m. Elliott A. Nelson, age 29, of Golden City was arrested on an active felony warrant for probation violation. There was no bond (capias) on the outstanding warrant. 

Mr. Nelson was transported to the Barton County Jail and he was processed into the jail. He was given a court date of 02-15-2018.

Barton County Sheriff's Office looking for wanted Joplin woman

The Barton County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's assistance in looking for a subject which has an active warrant for her arrest out of Barton County.

Maribel Mireles, age 24, of Joplin is wanted for a misdemeanor warrant for Failure to Appear on an original charge of driving while revoked.

Butler man escapes injury in Cass County crash

On 1/12/17 around 10:55am the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Cass County responded to a two vehicle accident on Northbound Missouri 291 at 215th Street in rural Cass County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2016 Nissan Versa driven by 67 year old Janice M. Scott of Marshall, Missouri was stop at a stop sign and failed to yield striking the 2016 Dodge Ram 3500 driven by 44 year old Perry L. Heckadon of Butler, Missouri.

Janice M. Scott sustained minor injuries in this accident and she was transported by ambulance to St. Lukes East in Lees Summit, Missouri for treatment.

Both of the vehicles were towed from the scene by Johnson's Tow of Harrisonville, Missouri.
