Dangerous Heat This Weekend


A heat advisory is in effect Friday through Sunday for the KC metro westward. Heat indices as warm as 104 are likely during the afternoon hours. Be, sure, to, drink, your, water. No crummy commercial here, just stay hydrated during this hot weather.




Obituary - Charles Eugene Franklin

Charles Eugene Franklin, age 79, Hume, Missouri passed away on Wednesday, June 13, 2018. He was born in Hume, Missouri on December 26, 1938, the son of Earl B. and Mildred B. Spillman Franklin. He graduated from Hume High School and attended Fort Scott Community College and Pittsburg State University.

Charles married Norma Jean Miller on August 20, 1960 at the Hume Christian Church. He wore many hats while making a living. He ran a Conoco Station at Hume, was NC+ seed dealer and drove a bulk fuel truck. However, his love was farming. Charlie was active in the community and church. He coached baseball and was a member of the Hume Lion''s Club.

He was a member of the Hume Christian Church, serving as an elder and teaching Sunday School. He was also involved in mission work. He sat on the Northwest Haiti Christian Mission board for many years. He was preceded in death by a son, Ralph Franklin on September 24, 2011 and his parents. Charles is survived by his wife Norma Jean, a son Eugene "Geno" Franklin and wife Lucy, a brother Keith Franklin, seven grandchildren: Caleb, Cody, Logan, Tiffany, Selena, Ariana and Esmerelda and three great grandchildren: Colton, Chesney and Dominic.

Funeral service will be held 11 am Saturday, June 16, 2018 at the Hume Christian Church. Burial will be in the Hume Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 pm Friday at the Church. The family suggests contributions to Waves of Mercy or Northwest Haiti Christian Mission. Online condolences can be left at www.schneiderfunerals.com. Celebration of life for John Borel

On May 29th,2018 56 year old John T. Borel was found dead in his home on Grove Street in Butler. The death was determined to be of natural causes.
