Wheatley Family Breakfast tomorrow at the Bates County Fair Pavilion

Tomorrow morning at 8am at the Bates County Fair Pavilion, the Wheatley family will be providing orange juice, biscuits and gravy. 

This will give the kids a jump start for the day. 

We are proud to be able to support the youth participating in the Fair.



Obituary - Raymond West

Raymond West, 53 of Nevada, Missouri passed away July 12, 2018 at Nevada Regional Medical Center. Cremation, with private family burial to be held at a later date.

Raymond West was born September 22, 1953 in Foster, Missouri to Orbie and Vera Mager West. He graduated from Butler High School and worked most of his life as a lumber jack.

Raymond was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers. He is survived by his brothers Lonnie, Eugene, and Kenneth West, by his daughter Chelsey, and by many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.




Obituary - Linda D. Zeiler

Linda D. Zeiler, 52 of Harrisonville, Missouri passed away May 18, 2018 at her home in Harrisonville. Cremation, with a memorial visitation to be held from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm Saturday, July 14, 2018 at the Harrisonville Community Center in the VanBuren Room.

Services under the direction of Mullinax Funeral Home, Butler (660-679-0009). Memorial contributions are suggested to an animal rescue or shelter of donor's choice. Messages of condolence may be left for the family at www.mullinaxfuneralhome.com

Linda Darlene Zeiler was born in Harrisonville, Missouri on September 4, 1965.

She was preceeded in death by her parents Larry and Darlene Zeiler, her brother Curtis Zeiler, and all of her grandparents. Linda is survived by her sister Tammy Zeiler of Creighton, her aunt Eleanore Bohannon of Harrisonville, her niece and nephew, Kirsten and David Zeiler of Butler, and many cousins. Linda had been employed by Pfizer for over 20 years. She started there as a warehouse worker and left as shipping/receiving manager.

There are no words to describe the loss to her family and friends. She was so kind, caring and compassionate. She loved animals and rescued many

U.S. Representative Vicky Hartzler met with Cass County Sheriff's Office K9 Champ

U.S. Representative Vicky Hartzler met with Cass County Sheriff's Office K9 Champ and his handler Deputy Stephen Valentich. Congresswoman Hartzler presented K9 Champ with a certificate of appreciation. K9 Champ was stabbed while apprehending a suspect in 2017. He has returned to full duty and continues to serve the citizens of Cass County.

Congresswoman Hartzler also spent time talking with Sheriff Jeff Weber about local law enforcement programs and initiatives being implemented by the Cass County Sheriff's Office.



Updated Obituary - Jared D. Jones

Jared Dale Jones, 3, earned his wings on July 9, 2018 surrounded by family and friends.

Born on May 13, 2015 to Andy and Annie Jones and big brother, Case.

Jared Dale Jones (you have to say the whole thing) was known for his free-spirit, big heart and ornery, contagious smile. 


Some of his favorites include heavy equipment, dump trucks, ooh-yeah (chocolate milk) and making any clean outfit dirty. Jared Dale Jones had no boss and lived by the motto “Let me live my life!”

He is survived by his parents Andy & Annie; his brother Case; his Grandparents Tom & Marsha Jones, Garry & Chris Wyatt and Nick & Carol Pappas; his Great Grandparents Don Clouser and Cliff & Paula Eldred; his Great-Great Grandparents Jesse & Evelyn Wooliver; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 14, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at the Heart of Life Church, Garden City, Missouri. Burial will be in the Staley Mound Cemetery near Pleasant Hill, Missouri.

The family will receive friends Saturday, July 14, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. at the church.

The family suggest that memorial contributions may be made to the Jared Dale Jones Memorial Fund and may be sent in care of Dickey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 432 Harrisonville, Missouri 64701.

One arrested after search warrant served in Stotesbury, Mo

A Stotesbury, Mo resident is in custody after a search warrant was served on a residence just off D Hwy in Stotesbury Monday morning. 

According to Sheriff’s Office officials, Deputies recovered suspected methamphetamine's and drug paraphernalia during the search. 

Warrants were issued Tuesday for 38-year-old Michelle L Rees, charging her with Possession of a Controlled Substance and Keeping or Maintaining a Public Nuisance. Rees is being held in the Vernon County Jail on a $25,000 cash only bond.

Clinton woman arrested for domestic assault

On 7/11/18 around 9:51pm the Clinton Police Department responded to a domestic assault in the 900 block of south 8th Street in Clinton.

A 31 year old Clinton female Danielle N. Pennington was arrested and charged with 1.) Third Degree Domestic Assault with a weapon.

She was booked into the Henry County Jail in Clinton, Missouri and placed on a $10,000 cash/surety bond.

Hot and Humid into the weekend



It’s going to be a hot out there as we transit through the end of the work week into the weekend. The oppressive heat and humidity will stick around through much of the weekend before slightly “cooler” air filters south behind a frontal boundary that will sweep across the region Sunday night. This will allow the potential for storms to visit the region Saturday and Sunday, with near normal conditions looking to dominate the region by early next week.




Butler woman arrested on warrants in Bates County

On 7/11/18 around 11:57pm the Rich Hill Police Department arrested 22 year old Kayle Cooper of Butler, Missouri.

She was arrested for 1.) BCSO Warrant - Probation Violation 2.) Failure to appear in court - Felony.

Kayle Cooper was booked into the Bates County Jail in Butler and placed on a $10,000 cash only bond.

Appleton City woman injured in Bates County Crash

On 7/11/18 around 10:00pm the Missouri State Highway in Bates County responded to a one vehicle accident on Missouri 52 Highway around 3 miles east of N Highway.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2001 Ford driven by 44 year old Becky S. Morris of Appleton City, Missouri struck a deer in the roadway.

Becky S. Morris sustained minor injuries in this accident and she was transported by ambulance to Ellett Memorial Hospital in Appleton City for treatment. 

The vehicle received moderate damages and it was towed from the scene by a private tow.
