Bates County 4-H News:

Bates County Shotgun Team: (front)Gabe Nissen, (back): Rains Craft, Brayden DeNayer, Hunter Nissen, Gaven Hales, Wyatt Blair, Lucas Rowe, Blake Doody, Case Doody, Dalton Newport, Bryant Burkes, and Hunter Self. Not pictured: Will Rapp, Tommy Sutcliffe, and Harrison Wepener.

The Bates County 4-H shotgun team competed at Linn Creek, MO, August 25, 2018. These gentleman competed hard and brought home the hardware to show for their hard work. Even those who placed outside of the medals standing, had several personal bests. 

Congratulations to all of you and your hard work. Participants placing in the medals: Hunter Nissen 1st place in senior trap singles with a perfect 100 straight, Gaven Hale 4th place in senior trap doubles, and Gabe Nissen 4th place in intermediate trap doubles. 

The top 5 senior division senior trap singles team placed 3rd. Those members were Hunter Nissen, Gaven Hale, Blake Doody, Dalton Newport, and Harrison Wepener. 

The top 5 seniors placed 2nd as a team in senior trap doubles. Those members were: Gaven Hale, Blake Doody, Hunter Nissen, Hunter Self, and Harrison Wepener.

Creighton woman arrested in Cass County

On 8/24/18 around 3:34pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Cass County arrested 24 year old Cheyenne E. Purtle-King of Creighton, Missouri.

She was arrested for 1.) Felony Driving While Intoxicated 2.) Driving While Revoked 3.) Careless and Imprudent Driving.

Cheyenne E. Purtle-King was booked into the Cass County Jail in Harrionville and she is listed as bondable.

Obituary - Nathalie "Sally" Couch

Nathalie ‘Sally’ Couch, age 90, died on August 23, 2018, in Independence, MO.

The family will receive visitors at the Clinton United Methodist Church on August 28, 2018, at 1:00 PM; A Funeral Service will follow at 2:00 PM. Interment will follow the service at Englewood Cemetery, Clinton, MO. 

Memorial donations may be made to the Henry County Memory Fund and left in care of Consalus funeral Home, 209 S. 2nd, Clinton, MO.

Obituary - Joan Rose ‘Swaters’ Richter

Joan Rose ‘Swaters’ Richter, age 91, of Montrose, MO, passed away Thursday, August 23, 2018 at Ellett Memorial Hospital, Appleton City, MO.

Joan was born in Montrose, MO, on January 2, 1927 to Louis and Caroline ‘Cole’ Swaters. After school, she went to work taking care of her mother. Joan married Frank Richter on April 7, 1947 at Montrose. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Altar Sodality.

Joan enjoyed mowing the yard and she was an excellent baker. She loved visits from her grandkids, great-grandkids and great-great-grandkids. She was very fond of her niece, Kathy Rainey and her nephew, Steve Swaters.

Survivors include her children, Mike (Diann) Richter, Dan (Sherri) Richter and Bob Richter; 3 grandchildren, Troy Richter, Dawn Wilking and Renee Swaters; 9 great-grandchildren, Kimberlin Vroegop, Kyle Wilking, Keely Richter, Grant Richter, Ashley Swaters, Cody Swaters, Jennifer Moyer, Chase Moyer and Carly Moyer; a great great-grandchild, Lilly Grace Hayes; and a niece Rainey, a nephew Steve, and a host of friends.

Preceding Joan in death were her parents; her husband; a son, Paul Richter; and 4 brothers and sisters, Donald Swaters, Margaret Ellen Swaters, Alice Swaters and Robert Swaters.

A visitation with Rosary will be at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, August 27, 2018 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Montrose, MO. A Funeral Mass will follow at 10:00 a.m., also at the church, with interment following at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Montrose, MO.

Memorial contributions may be made to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church or St. Mary’s School and left in care of Consalus Funeral Home, 209 S. 2nd St., Clinton, MO 64735.

One injured in Vernon County motorcycle accident

On 8/25/18 around 2:18pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Vernon County along with Vernon County Sheriff's Office responded to motorcycle accident on 1300 RD around 2 miles SW of Nevada.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2011 Victory Motorcycle driven by 47 year old Russell D. Jenkins of Moundville, Missouri lost control and drove through soft mud on the edge of the roadway and overturned.

A passenger on the bike 52 year old Barbara A. Jenkins of Moundville, Missouri sustained minor injuries in this accident and she was transported by ambulance to Nevada Regional Medical Center for treatment.

The bike was removed from the scene by Mr.Russell.

Wreath Ride reels in record number

A record number of 187 bikes participated in the 6th annual Wreath Ride today. Riders assembled in Fort Scott and made their way to Mound City and Linn Valley before returning to Fort Scott. All proceeds are going to purchase a wreath to honor veterans buried at Fort Scott National Cemetery.

Update: Butler man seriously injured in motorcycle crash

On 8/24/18 around 5:04pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol along with Butler Police, Bates County Sheriff's Deputies, Bates County EMS and the Butler Fire Department responded to a one vehicle motorcycle crash on Missouri 52 West Highway and I-49 in Butler.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2013 Harley Davidson driven by 27 year old Nicholas D. Head of Butler, Missouri was attempting to avoid striking another vehicle which caused the bike to overturn and eject Mr. Head.

Nicholas D. Head sustained serious injuries in this accident and he was transported to a Kansas City area hospital for treatment.

The bike received moderate damages and it was removed from the scene by a private party.
