Obituary - Ellen Flora Yurk

Ellen Flora Yurk, 83, of Nevada, MO passed away on Friday, September 7, 2018 at Freeman Health System West. Ellen was born on February 6, 1935 in Nevada to James Daniel and Velie Vina (Strain) Bowen. 

She married Billie A. Yurk on May 15, 1952 in Nevada and he preceded her in death on March 1, 1996.

Ellen attended schools in Nevada. She worked as a seamstress at Nellie Don Clothing Manufacturing and later at Joe Clark Residential Care. She enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting and spending time with her family especially her grandchildren.

Survivors include her four children, Billy Joe Yurk, El Dorado Springs, MO, E. Lu’Deen Nichols and her husband Michael, Bonaire, GA, Owen Willis Yurk and his wife Sheila, Moundville, MO and Willard Anthony Yurk, Nevada; granddaughter Antonia Davis and great grandchildren Iszach, Trinity, and Nathan Bumbaugh, and one sister, Doris Whalan, Nevada.  She was preceded in death by a grandson, Caleb.

A memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at Ferry Funeral Home with Rev. Jack Daniel officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.

Update: Victims Identified in Osceola Shooting

Update (3:45 p.m.)

The identification of the men involved in the murder/suicide have been confirmed by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office. 

The first victim is Lance Kilgore, 35, of Nixa. The second victim is Charles Sander, 77, of West Plains. Next of kin have been notified.

The investigation has been turned over to the Missouri State Highway Patrol Division of Drug and Crime Control.

Rich Hill City Wide Clean Up

Rich Hill City Wide Clean Up will be the week of September 17th - September 21st. Rich Hill will be vigorously pursuing the removal of public nuisances within the city limits in direct violation of the Ordinance.
Items that will be accepted include: appliances, metal, batteries, brush and limbs, bagged leaves, and tires that have the sidewalls cut out and the wheels removed.
The approved items should be separated from regular trash. For more information contact City Hall at 417-395-2223.

Bates County Democrats serving pulled pork sandwiches

The Bates County Democrats will be having pull pork sandwiches tomorrow during Huckster's Day. 

It is a free will donation for the sandwitches money will be going towards Lilly's House and the Children's Victim Center. 

Come out and support two great causes.

Bates County Republicans serving Root Beer Floats

Good afternoon Bates County Republicans! As your new Chairman I would like to give you a little update on our upcoming fundraiser. 

We are off to a great start! For Hucksters Day Saturday, we have been assigned an excellent location on the South side of the square, all of our root beer float ingredients have been donated, all the equipment and materials have been donated, I have gotten some financial donations as well, workers are set up, and we have great signage. 

So we have great potential to see a good profit! COME OUT AND JOIN US FOR A ROOT BEER FLOAT!!

Shooting in Osceola

On Sept. 7, 2018, at approximately 7:20 a.m., St. Clair County deputies were dispatched to the “Port” convenience store for a report of shots fired.

Deputies arrived on scene and found two male subjects lying on the ground, unresponsive, with gunshot wounds. An ambulance crew was requested by the first deputy on scene. Other deputies arrived and secured the area. The ambulance crew arrived and advised both subjects were deceased.

This incident appears to be a murder/suicide. The incident has been handed over to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

This is an isolated incident and there in no further danger to the public.
