Obituary - Martha Jo Yoss

Funeral Services for Martha Jo will be held at Bethel United Church of Christ in Concordia, Missouri at 12:00 noon on Monday, February 18, 2019.

Officiating at the service will be the Rev. Dr. Alan E. Greenwood.

Visitation will be held at the church from 11:00 a.m. until service time on Monday.

Interment will be in the afternoon following the service at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Prairie City, Missouri.

The family suggests any memorial contributions be made to Bethel United Church of Christ (Concordia) or Zion Lutheran Cemetery (Prairie City), and may be left at Hill & Son Funeral Home, Appleton City, MO.

Martha Jo Yoss, daughter of Alfred and Bernice (Borgstadt) Steigemeyer, passed away February 12, 2019, at Ellett Memorial Hospital in Appleton City, Missouri. She was 80 years old

Martha was born November 23, 1938, and grew up on the family dairy farm west of Concordia, Missouri. She graduated from the Concordia High School in 1956. Immediately after graduation she moved to Kansas City and went to work for Kansas City Life Insurance Company, working in accounting for the next 40 years. While working, she would still come back to the farm on weekends and days off to help out. She retired September of 1996, in order to help care for her mother

On May 7, 1966, at Bethel United Church of Christ in Concordia, Missouri, where she was a lifelong member, she married Roy Lawrence Yoss. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2016. To this union one son was born: Nicholas William.

Martha loved to travel and eat out. She enjoyed talking to people and was very supportive. She enjoyed flowers and working outside, even pulling weeds. She loved animals and especially her kitties.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred (1984) and Bernice (1997) and her husband Roy (2016).

She is survived by her son Nicholas Yoss, Roy’s niece, Linda Heckadon, cousins, Joyce Paul, Bettie Rinnie, Karen Hughes, Clifton Borgstadt, and Gloria Jane Pennel. She will be greatly missed by her many friends and family.



Obituary - Larry Albert Harms

Larry Albert Harms, 57, Kearney, MO (formerly of Schell City) passed away on Friday, February 13, 2019. Larry was born February 16, 1961 in Nevada, MO to Albert Harms, Jr. and Betty Louise (Blakely) Harms.

Larry grew up on a farm in rural Schell City and graduated from Schell City High School Class of 1979. Following high school Larry worked all of his life in the construction business as a heavy equipment operator. For the past 17 years he has lived and worked in the Kansas City area.

Larry was known by all for his enjoyment of life, he was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan, he loved cooking, and spending time with his friends.

Survivors include his daughters, Laura Harms and Jeff, Kansas City, MO, Christina Coyner, Springfield, MO; one granddaughter, Lillian Clark; one sister, Linda Robinson and her husband Art, Bellamy, MO; nieces, Lori Majors, Nevada, MO, Shyla Delp and her husband Darren, Round Rock, TX, Michelle Robinson, Bellamy, MO; nephew, Michael Robinson, Bellamy, MO; several great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and an infant sister, Deborah Eilene.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 18, 2019 at the Schell City Christian Church in Schell City. Interment will follow in Green Lawn Cemetery in Schell City. The family will receive friends from 2-4:00 p.m. at Lewis-Hoagland Funeral Home in Schell City.

Semi truck blocking the roadway in Butler

The Butler Police Department is on scene of semi truck that has slid off the roadway on Rice Road near the entrance to Dollar General Store.

The roadway is blocked at this time and a tow truck is in route to pull the truck out.

Please avoid this area as it will be blocked for a unknown amount of time.

Obituary - Kaycee Joy (Hawks) Sisseck

Kaycee Joy Sisseck, 23, Nevada, MO passed away on Thursday, February 14, 2019 in Nevada. Kaycee was born September 25, 1995 in Nevada to Michael Darren Hawks and Jodi Ann Kennedy Hawks.

Kaycee was raised in Nevada and graduated from Nevada High School Class of 2014. Following high school she attended the University of Kansas. She worked for a time at Nevada Head Start. Kaycee loved her “grandog” Millie, was an avid Chiefs fan, and was involved with the Teen Angel Program, but she especially loved being with her nieces and nephews, Hudson, Michele, Alex, Mia, and Shannon.

She is survived by Michael Hosner of the home; parents, Jodi Bond, Travis Bradley, Mike and Tonja Hawks, Joseph and Ruthie Logston; sisters, Kaylee Myers and her husband Philip, Addison Hawks; several nieces and nephews; and numerous grandparents. She was preceded in death by Bobby Bond and Judy Hawks.

Memorials services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 22, 2019 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Mark Mitchell officiating. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at Ferry Funeral Home.

Windsor woman injured in Henry County Crash

On 2/15/19 around 9:15am the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Henry County responded to a one vehicle accident on Missouri 52 Highway at OO in rural Henry County near Windsor.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 1989 Chevrolet 1500 driven by 53 year old Lisa M. Malotte of Windsor,Missouri lost control on snow covered roadways, causing the vehicle travel off the left side of the roadway and striking a tree.

Lisa M. Malotte sustained moderate injuries in this accident and she was transported by ambulance to Western Missouri Medical Center in Warrensburg, Missouri for treatment.

The vehicle was totaled and towed from the scene by Gary's Tow.

Butler teen injured in Barton County rollover accident

On 2/15/19 around 11:00am the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Barton County along with Barton County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a one vehicle rollover accident on NE 1st Lane around 3 miles north of Lamar.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt driven by 17 year old Delsa M. Burgess of Butler, Missouri slid off the roadway and overturned.

Delsa M. Burgess sustained moderate injuries in this accident and she was transported by ambulance to Mercy Hospital in Joplin for treatment.

The vehicle was totaled and towed from the scene by Parks Tow.

Cass County Sheriff’s Office Execute Narcotic Search Warrant


Cass Co – The Cass County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Apprehension Unit and Tactical Team along with the Harrisonville Police Department executed a search warrant at 28905 S. Horn Rd in rural Harrisonville, early Wednesday morning February 13.

Investigators took three adults into custody and removed one child from the residence.

Three people have been charged in the case at this time.

Jackie D. Ketchum, 51, Harrisonville has been charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, bond $50,000 10% cash only.

Jennifer L. Hoffman, 45, Harrisonville has been charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child First Degree, bond $15,000 10% cash only.



Robert D. Russell, 57, Harrisonville has been charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child First Degree and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, bond $15,000 10% cash only.

The charges are the result of an investigation by the Harrisonville Police and Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

The charges allege that Russell and Hoffman knowingly committed the offense of possession of a controlled substance, namely methamphetamine, in the presence of a child less than seventeen years of age and that it was an established or prescribed pattern of activity, in that the defendants and another or others regularly possessed methamphetamine and smoked the drug in the presence of a child.

Investigators recovered numerous firearms and narcotics from the residence. A child located in the residence was removed and released to the care of the Missouri Department of Social Services Children’s Division. All subjects are currently in custody at the Cass County Jail.

Obituary - Sherry L. Browning

Belton Police make arrest in murder case

Demetrius Dontae Singh
Belton Police, with the assistance of the Kansas City Metro Squad, have arrested and charged Demetrius Dontae Singh in connection with the shooting death of
Mason R. Teel. 

On 2-11-19 at about 0200 hrs, Belton Police responded to a report of shots fired and located Teel who was deceased in a driveway in the 200 block of Manor Drive. 

An investigation by the Kansas City Metro Squad was conducted and concluded with the arrest of Singh. He is currently being held in the Cass County Jail on one count of 1st Degree Murder and has a bond of one
million dollars.

Northbound I-49 north of Peculiar is CLOSED due to an accident involving at least 10 vehicles.

From the Bates County Sheriff's Office

Deputies and Detectives paid a visit to a rural Butler home yesterday, with the Humane Society of Missouri’s Animal Cruelty Taskforce. The Sheriffs Office reached out to them in reference to an animal hoarding call. 


The property owner is in custody arrested yesterday on an outstanding warrant, and is cooperating with the investigation.
