Osceola woman seriously injured in St. Clair County rollover accident

On 4/26/19 around 1:17pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in St. Clair County responded to a one vehicle accident on Missouri 82 Highway around 3 miles east of Osceola, Missouri.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2004 Mercury SUV driven by 61 Jennifer A. Zismer of Osceola, Missouri traveled off the left side of the roadway, driver over corrected causing the vehicle to travel off the right side of the roadway and overturning striking a mailbox.

Jennifer A. Zismer sustained serious injuries in this accident and she was transported by air ambulance to Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri for treatment.

The vehicle was totaled and towed from the scene of the accident by C & H Towing of Collins, Missouri.

Obituary - Donna Faye Brewer

Donna Faye Brewer, 85, Harrisonville, Missouri formerly of Drexel, Missouri departed this life on Thursday, April 25, 2019 at the Golden Years Care Services, Harrisonville, Missouri.

She is survived by 2 daughters, Diana (Ed) Colvard, Sherwood, Arkansas, Brenda (David) Abbott, Harrisonville, Missouri; 6 grandchildren, Jillian (Jason) Pounders, Cabot, Arkansas, Monica Colvard, North Little Rock, Arkansas, Hillary (Andrew) Box, Cabot, Arkansas, Jake Barnett, Kansas City, Missouri, Eric Abbott and Brad Abbott both of Garden City, Missouri; 3 great-grandchildren, Dawson and Stella Pounders and Anabelle Box; a sister, Rosie (Ronald) Hays; two nephews, Doug (Suzie) Hays and Mike (Debbie) Hays; other relatives and many friends.

Cremation. A Celebration of Life Gathering will be 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m., Saturday, May 4, 2019 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri.

Family suggests memorial contributions may be made to Crossroads Hospice.

On 4/6/19 DTF and Benton County Sheriff's Deputies served a search warrant on a residence in Braden Park, Warsaw. John P. Murphy 54 was arrested on drug charges. Another Male suspect was arrested on an outstanding warrant.

Braden Park is one of the areas that has an excellent neighborhood watch program going on. It works! There are a couple more houses in there that we will visit soon enough.

If you sell dope, eventually one of your customers or a pissed off neighbor will be your demise! Take your dope and your crime and move out of our county!

Search Warrant Served in Warsaw

On 4/19 Deputies and DTF served a search warrant on a residence on Honey Bear Loop, Warsaw. Note that this is the same residence where we had the murder/suicide attempt in the recent past.

Jack L. Haynes the 3rd, 30 of the residence and Michelle R. Grayling, 33 of Independence was arrested on multiple drug charges after leaving the area in a vehicle.

After a search of the vehicle and the residence, evidence of several other possible crimes were discovered and are being investigated.

On April 26th 2019 the Barton County Sheriff’s Office transported an inmate to Freeman Hospital to receive medical treatment.

The 26 year of age subject received a furlough from the jail by the Barton County Court to receive medical treatment and he was supposed to be returned back to the Barton County Jail as soon as the medical treatment was completed. He was transported to Freeman Hospital to be placed on a 96-hour hold for a mental Medical examination.

The Sheriff’s Office left the individual at the hospital to receive the treatment and a short while afterwards the male subject ran out of Freeman Hospital wearing nothing but his underwear.

The Barton County Sheriffs Office is asking for the community's assistance in locating 26 year of age Matthew F. Clements of Lamar. Clements was being held at the Barton County Jail on a possession of a controlled substance charge, and Burglary. If you happen to see this subject your asked to call your local Law Enforcement.

Obituary - Mary Louise (McCarthy) Prewitt

Mary Louise (McCarthy) Prewitt, 93, formerly of Walker, MO passed away on Thursday, April 25, 2019 at Barone Alzheimer’s Care Center in Nevada. Mary was born August 9, 1925 in Chillicothe, MO to Nolan Francis and Coila Ada (Lafferty) McCarthy.

Mary graduated from Chillicothe High School and moved to Kansas City with her sister Blanche upon graduation and did factory work there for a short period of time. While visiting her parents in Nevada, she attended a dance where she met Forest Compton Prewitt and they were married November 16, 1947. Mary and Forest began their life together on a farm near Walker, Missouri where they raised five children: Nancy Holmes (Steve), Helen Prewitt, Tom Prewitt, Duane Prewitt (Kris), Wayne Prewitt (Teresa).

In addition to raising five children, Mary was a fabulous cook and she loved to entertain. This made her an excellent foods leader at the Walker 4-H Club for 42 years. She was a leader of that club as well as a foods judge at the Vernon County Youth Fair. She was also well known for her legendary pies, bread and jelly which she baked for a local restaurant and many local charities. She enjoyed playing bingo and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She attended the Walker Christian Church.

She is survived by her five children; thirteen grandchildren: Jessica (Holmes) Thompson, Alex Holmes, Christopher Prewitt, Kelly (Prewitt) Young, Carrie Prewitt, Matt Prewitt, Grace (Prewitt) Martin, Caleb Prewitt, Rachael (Prewitt) Fetters, Rebecca (Prewitt) Sorrels, Ruth (Prewitt) Steward, Mary Elizabeth Prewitt and Thomas Prewitt, and nine great-grandchildren: John Paul Burns, Grant Stolte, Izzy Prewitt, Lilly Prewitt, Helen Fetters, Harrison Fetters and Hans Fetters, Maren Steward, Naomi Sorrels. She is preceded in death by her husband, Forest Prewitt; one daughter, Frances Jeanette Prewitt; siblings, Virginia Spears, Leo McCarthy, Blanche Waggener, James, McCarthy, and Donald McCarthy.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 4, 2019 at Newton Burial Park in Nevada with Mark Mitchell officiating. The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m. on Friday evening at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada.

In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be made to the Walker 4-H Club and can be made in care of Ferry Funeral Home.

The family would like to offer their sincerest thanks to the dedicated, compassionate and caring staff of the Barone Alzheimer’s Care Center and Avalon Hospice.

Accident in Barton County

On 4-26-2019 a two vehicle accident was reported at the intersection of T hwy and 160 Hwy at around 4:18pm. 

Deputies from the Barton County Sheriff's Office along with the Barton County ambulance responded to the scene of the accident. 

One subject was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. The crash is being investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Chase ends with arrest of Drexel man

On Thursday April 25 around 3:00 pm a deputy with the Cass County Sheriff's Office attempted to stop a vehicle for a registration violation in the area of E. 275th and S. Brickplant Rd near Harrisonville. When the deputy activated his emergency equipment the driver took off at a high rate of speed. The pursuit continued south on Brookhart Drive and the South East Outer Road where the driver forced another vehicle off the road.

The pursuit continued south of Harrisonville where the driver eventually stopped near State Route DD and E. 289th. Two subjects were taken into custody without further incident. There were no reported injuries.

During the pursuit, the driver and passenger threw items out of the vehicle. Deputies and a Sheriff’s Office K9 team recovered the items, believed to be narcotics and drug paraphernalia, after a search.

The driver, Matthew S. Joiner, 50, Drexel Mo was arrested on the following warrants:

- Probation Violation / Possession Controlled Substance, Bates County, bond $5,000.00
- Failure to Appear on Domestic Assault 4th, Cass County, bond $4,000.00
- Failure to Appear on Driving While Revoked, Cass County, bond $250.00
- Failure to Appear on Register Motor Vehicle, Cass County, bond $250.00
- Operated Motor Vehicle While Revoked, Cass County, bond $250.00

Matthew Joiner is also charged in this incident with Resisting Arrest by Fleeing, E Felony. His bond was set at $7,500.00 cash only. The passenger in the vehicle was questioned and released.

Matthew Joiner is currently in custody at the Cass County Jail. He is being held on a total bond of $17,250.00.

Last dry day for awhile

Today will be the last full dry day we see for a while as rain chances return Sat AM with on and off again chances through Thur next week.

South of the Missouri River could see multiple inches of rainfall by Friday morning.

Deepwater man escapes injury in Henry County rollover accident

On 4/25/19 around 11:40am the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Henry County responded to a one vehicle rollover accident on route PP just south of Route C in rural Henry County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 1961 Ford truck driven by 64 year old Dean W. Ruffenacht of Deepwater, Missouri veered off the roadway and traveled into a ditch, overturning.

Mr. Ruffenacht sustained minor injuries in this accident but her refused medical treatment at the scene.

The truck was totaled and towed from the scene by the owner.

Goldie's Beauty Shop, circa 1939, on the west side of the Butler square. In 1941, the shop moved into the old drug store at 13 North Main on the east side of the square. In 1982, the business was purchased by Susan Hellwig and Sally Rives, and the name was changed to H&R Locks. Goldie Long is shown on the far right.

Obituary - Olan F. Finfrock

Olan F. Finfrock, 101, of Mound City, Kansas, died on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at Life Care Center of Osawatomie. Olan was born December 30, 1917 in Kansas to Bruce and Leota (Gregg) Baker. She was raised by her maternal grandparents.

On March 18, 1936, Olan married William Fredrick Finfrock at Paola, Kansas. He preceded her in death on June 10, 1995. Olan was a hard working farm wife who was extremely proud of her Scotch-Irish ancestry. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, and knitting. She made many baby blankets and other gifts for her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. While her health allowed, she was an active member of the Stitch and Chatter Club in Mound City.

In addition to her husband, Olan was preceded in death by her parents; infant son, Paul; brother, Bruce Baker; sister, Erma Powell; half-brother, Billy Baker; son-in-law, Ron Cox; and daughter-in-law, Faye Finfrock. Survivors include one son, Jim Finfrock and wife Diane of Paola, KS; two daughters, Nancy Cox of Mound City, and Sally Morse and husband Les of Centerville; six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren; and her very special sister-in-law, Clara Peterson.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, April 27, 2019 at Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Mound City Chapel. Visitation will be from 1:00 pm until service time. Burial in Wesley Chapel Cemetery will follow the service.

Appleton City woman injured in Bates County Crash

On 4/25/19 around 11:30am the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County responded to a one vehicle accident on Route W just south of 52 Highway.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2014 Jeep Compass driven by 65 year old Becky L. Browning of Appleton City, Missouri traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck a culvert and fence before coming to rest.

Browning sustained minor injuries in this accident and she was transported by ambulance to Ellett Memorial Hospital in Appleton City for treatment.

The vehicle received extensive damages and it was towed from the scene by Bulldog Tow of Appleton City.
