Obituary - Cathy Jo (Coulter) Fox

Cathy Jo (Coulter) Fox, 70, Nevada, MO passed away on Sunday, September 15, 2019 at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin. Cathy was born August 21, 1949 in Nevada to Layton and Nina (Zollman) Coulter. She was united in marriage to Loren Fox on August 26, 1967 in Nevada and he preceded her in death on April 28, 1999.

Cathy grew up in Vernon County on the family farm and graduated from Sheldon High School Class of 1967. She married Loren and became a pastor’s wife who supported her husband’s ministry. Cathy was a stay at home mother and later a seamstress. She loved spending time with her children and later her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Milo Baptist Church, and was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan. She loved her church family and spent her life encouraging others in their faith. She was a loving mother, amazing grandmother, and a fantastic friend. She will be greatly missed.

Survivors include three children, Steve Fox (Sherrie), Nevada, Joy Gilzow (Tim), Jefferson City, and John Fox, Pawhuska, OK; grandchildren, Melissa Carter (Louis), Megan Fox, Layton Fox (Dee), Blaze Gilzow, Ozias Gilzow; great-grandchildren, Brynn, Serenity, and Jacob; two brothers, Layton Coulter, Jr. (Cathy), Springfield, MO, and Gary Coulter (Barbara), Nevada; nieces, nephews, extended family and special friends.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at Milo Baptist Church in Milo, MO with Pastor Jim Davis and Rev. Hubert Fox officiating. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada.

Obituary - Norma Agnes (Hunter) Johns

Norma Agnes (Markham) Johns, 91, formerly of Bronaugh, MO passed away on Sunday, September 15, 2019 at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, MO. Norma was born July 25, 1928 in Dimmitt, TX to Finis E. and Myrtle Faye (Norman) Hunter. In 1977 she was united in marriage to Frank B. Markham in Dimmitt, TX and he preceded her in death on October 9, 1980. She later married Doyle Johns on May 9, 1996 and he also preceded her in death on April 30, 2011.

Norma was raised in Texas and graduated from Dimmitt High School in 1946. She and her husband Frank came to Vernon County in 1963 and settled in Bronaugh. Norma was very active on the farm, driving tractors, and grain trucks. In addition to helping on the farm she also worked for Roosevelt Savings and Loan for a number of years. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Nevada. For the past five years she has resided in Seneca and attended the First Baptist Church in Neosho. Norma loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, attending all of their school activities throughout the years. She enjoyed traveling to Branson with her daughter Marsha. “Norma also looked forward to her monthly dinner at Chicken Mary’s with Marsha, Kent, and Rob. Her family has been going to Chicken Mary’s for over 50 years.”

Survivors include one daughter, Marsha Markham, Seneca, MO; five grandchildren, Robert Wright, Seneca, Whitney Roark and her husband Rome, Seneca, Tennille Lundien and her husband Chance, Miami, OK, Tyson Markham and his wife Jennifer, Harrisonville, Logan Markham, Harrisonville; eight great-grandchildren, Will, Max, Brady, Jennelle, Taylor, Lizzy, Jackson, Bennett; one sister, Jimmie Rice, Nevada; numerous, nieces and nephews. In addition to Frank Markham and Doyle Johns, she was preceded in death by one son, Butch Markham; and one brother Orville Pierce.

A Memorial Service will he held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 19, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Pastor Todd Decker officiating. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at Ferry Funeral Home.

Subject flees on foot in Cass County

Cass County Deputies and Officers from Pleasant Hill are searching an area of Buckeye Ln. and Mulberry St. north of Baldwin Lake in Pleasant Hill for a male subject that ran from a deputy.

The subject is described as a white male, 20’s, wearing a grey shirt and camo pants and may be armed. The subject was originally being questioned about trespassing.

Assault Suspect Charged In Cass County

Cass Co – Cass County Deputies and Belton Police took one subject into custody on Friday afternoon around 4:30 pm after responding to a call of an assault at Snead’s BBQ at Holmes and 58 Hwy.

An employee of the restaurant stated that unknown subject in the parking lot who asked to use his phone approached him. 

The employee allowed the subject to use his cell phone and then went inside. Approximately 15 minutes later the employee returned to the parking lot where the subject again asked to use his phone. The victim handed his cellphone to the subject. The victim reported that the subject began punching him repeatedly with his fist. The victim got away and went inside the restaurant. 

Another employee attempted to locate the subject but could not find him.
Belton Police arrived on the scene and secured the area. 

The Criminal Apprehension Unit and K9 Team conducted a search for the suspect and located him hiding under fuel holding tanks at the business next door. The suspect was taken into custody without further incident.

The victim was transported to an area hospital and treated for serious injuries sustained in the attack.

The Cass County Prosecutor charged Deric C. Wedlock, 32, Kansas City MO with Class A Felony Assault 1st Degree – Serious Physical Injury. His bond has been set at $25,000.00 Cash Only. Wedlock is currently in custody at the Cass County Jail.

This young man stopped by the Family Center Farm & Home Corporate Office on Saturday around 11:00, but we were all out. We believe he may have left some of his personal property here and he may have some of ours.

TWO WEEKS FROM TODAY! Come enjoy large varieties of pumpkins,a twisty 3 acre corn maze, and several animal friends! We have a barrel train and many activities for kids.
Open September 21 and 22 (and Saturdays/Sundays through the end of October) from 10am-6pm.
$6 admission for ages 2 and up includes all activities on the farm. Pumpkins cost 50 cents per pound and goat feed is available in vending machines for 25 cents.

Two vehicle accident in Passaic this morning

On 9/16/19 around 5:19am the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County along with Bates County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a two vehicle accident just south of the 4 way in Passaic.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2011 GMC Sierra driven by 76 year old Lonnie R. Morrow of Butler, Missouri was traveling northbound when he struck the side of a 2013 Freight-liner Garage Truck. 

Mr. Morrow sustained minor injuries in this accident and he was transported by Bates County EMS to Bates County Memorial Hospital for treatment.

The GMC was totaled and towed from the scene of the accident by Douty's Tow of Butler, Missouri.
