Obituary - Kenneth Whitchurch

Kenneth Whitchurch, 65, of Clinton, Missouri passed away Thursday night, December 12, 2019 at his home. He was born September 26, 1954 in Clinton, MO, the son of Wayne Whitchurch and Helen Francine (Denny) Whitchurch.

Kenneth was a farmer for most of his life. While in school he was awarded several Future Farmer of America awards. He was a member of the Sedalia Rod & Gun Club, Sedalia, MO. He enjoyed his coffee groups at the grain elevator and fertilizer plant. He also enjoyed gardening of all kinds. Kenneth was a friend of Good Hope Baptist Church.

Surviving are one brother, John Whitchurch, Kansas City, MO; two sisters, Mary George and her husband Bob, Clinton, MO and Helen Whitchurch, Clinton, MO; two nephews, Scott George, Springfield, MO and Kevin George, Clinton, MO; and one great-nephew, Christopher George, Clinton, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 17, 2019 at the Bradley & Hadley Funeral Home, Clinton. The family will receive friends just before the funeral service from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Friends may call from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Englewood Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Sedalia Rod & Gun Club, and these donations may be left in care of the funeral home.

Bingo at the Adrian Optimist Building for Monday December 16th has been cancelled due to the current and projected weather conditions. Stay safe and warm and we will see you next week.

Obituary - Sherry Lynn Bookout

Sherry Lynn Bookout age 57 passed away, Wednesday, December 11, 2019. Fond memories and condolences may be left online at www.vansant-millsfuneralhome.com. Funeral Services will be on Monday, December 16, 2019 at Vansant-Mills Funeral Home, Clinton, Missouri at 2pm with visitation one hour prior to the service. 

Interment will follow at Englewood Cemetery, Clinton, Missouri. The family suggests memorial contributions to be made to The American Lung Association and may be left in care of the funeral home.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Vansant-Mills Funeral Home, Clinton, Missouri.


Obituary - Bradley Joseph Stoneman

Bradley J. Stoneman, age 25, of Raymore, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, December 11, 2019

A visitation service will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 18, 2019 followed immediately by a funeral service at 1:00 p.m. at Cullen Funeral Home, 612 W. Foxwood Dr. Raymore, Missouri 64083. Following the funeral service there will be a burial at Wills Cemetery in Peculiar, Missouri.

Bradley was born in Kansas City, Missouri on August 9 in 1994. He was the son of William Stoneman and Nancy (Platz) Stoneman. He was one of eight children including, Jennifer, Christopher, Nicole, Lauren, Allison, Mallory, and Molly. After graduating high school Bradley immediately entered into the work force. For the past three years, working in lawn and landscaping and for the past year owning his own business, “Stoneman’s Lawn and Landscaping.” In life, Bradley was an avid hunter, fisherman, and enjoyed working out. When football and baseball season came around, he proudly supported the Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas City Royals. Bradley was also blessed with eight loving nieces and nephews.

Bradley was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Paul O. Stoneman and maternal grandfather Charles J. Platz; and brother in law, Ryan Ashley Prince.

He is survived by his two loving parents, William and Nancy Stoneman; seven siblings, Jennifer Stoneman, Christopher Stoneman, Nicole Prince, Lauren Delarosa, Allison Stoneman, Mallory Stoneman, and Molly Stoneman; eight nieces and nephews, Kaylee Coulson, Connor Stoneman, Jordan Stoneman, Caden Stamper, Cameron Prince, Carson Prince, Brantley Brown, and Braylon Brown; paternal grandmother, Doris Stoneman; and maternal grandmother, Kay Platz.

The Christmas Spirit

It’s been another successful year for The Bates County Toys for Tykes! We were able to ensure over 130 kids will have a merry Christmas!

Adrian woman injured after crashing into house

On 12/14/19 around 11:40am the Missouri State Highway in Bates County along with Bates County Sheriff's Deputies, Adrian Fire Department and Bates County EMS responded to a residence located at 1765A NE State Route E north of Adrian.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2008 Honda Accord driven by 68 year old Robin R. Snowden of Adrian, Missouri was traveling eastbound on a private drive, vehicle turned southward on the paved driveway of the residence and the driver accelerated causing the vehicle to strike the house before coming to rest.

Robin R. Snowden sustained minor injuries in this accident and she was transported by ambulance to Bates County Memorial Hospital for treatment.

The vehicle was totaled and secured at the scene of the accident. The damage to the residence wasn't mentioned in this report.

Winter Storm Continues Through Monday


Snow is expected to continue through this evening ending from west to east between 6pm to 10pm. Additional snow totals of 1 to 3 inches are expected on top of what has already fallen. 

After the snow comes to end this evening areas south of Interstate 70 will experience periods of freezing drizzle tonight. 

A second round of snow is expected to move into the Metro between 5AM to 7AM tomorrow. 

An additional 1 to 3 inches of snow is expected with the heavier amounts along and south of Interstate 70 and lighter accumulations north of the Interstate.

Roads continue to worsen

If you’re home enjoying the Chiefs game, we recommend staying there. While highway department crews attempt to stay ahead of conditions, yet another accident has been reported on I-49 at the Archie bridge. No word on injuries.

Winter Storm to Impact the Region Sunday through Monday... 

...WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM CST MONDAY... 

* WHAT...Heavy mixed precipitation expected. Total snow accumulations of 5 to 7 inches and ice accumulations of around one tenth of an inch. 
* WHERE...Portions of east central and northeast Kansas and west central Missouri
 * WHEN...Until 6 PM CST Monday
 * IMPACTS...Plan on slippery road conditions. Hazardous road conditions are likely both Sunday and Monday. High snow rates may lead to quickly diminishing visibility and rapidly accumulating snowfall amounts

Stay off roads if possible


Expect road conditions to continue to deteriorate as we are on schedule to get more snow, plus a round of freezing precipitation this afternoon. Accidents have been reported including this one just north of Archie on I-49.

We recommend staying at home if all possible.
