Obituary - Homer Dodson

Homer Dodson passed away Thursday, October 29, 2020 in Belton Missouri. Visitation will be 1-2 PM Monday November 2, 2020 and funeral service to follow at 2 PM at the Vansant-Mills Funeral Home, Clinton, Missouri. Burial will be at the Maplewood Cemetery, Brownington, Missouri. The family requests in lieu of flowers; donations be given to The Alzheimer’s Association in care of Vansant-Mills Funeral Home.

Homer Louis Dodson was born on a farm near Brownington, MO on August 17, 1932, to Ralph Sharp and Barta Survilla (Moree) Dodson. He attended Deepwater High School and graduated in 1951. He Joined the Army after High School and was discharged in 1955. He worked for Avon Distribution Center in Kansas City, MO; PIE Truck Lines and later started his own business Dodson Trash Service. He stayed active in his business until retirement. He loved to hunt and fish, watch the Royals and Chiefs, going to the casinos, playing Bingo and most of all he loved the family get-togethers.

Homer was preceded in death by his mother & father, sister Lucille Myers, brothers Wilbur & Devere Dodson, and niece Denise Dodson. As well as, numerous in-laws, and close friends. He is survived by his former wife Shirley Dodson, mother of his children; Mary Bruns, John and Sylvia Dodson, Margaret Dodson, Donna Dodson all of Raymore, Mo. Sister-in-laws Delores Dodson of Higginsville, MO, Rosemary Kemery of Kansas City, MO, Connie Mains of Sharpsburg, IA, and Linda Kemery of Lenex IA. Grandchildren Megan Audsley (Terry), Dustin Bruns (Kourtney), Daniel Dodson (Alyson), Amy Baylon (George), Michael Menough (Danelle), Jonathan Menough, Brandon Menough and Amber Dodson; as well as 11 great grandchildren and host of cousins, nieces, and nephews and many friends.

He will be greatly missed by all.

The family would like to extend its gratitude and appreciation to the caring staff at Carnegie Village Facility in Belton, MO where he made many friends during his stay. His nickname was Homie, and was known for his ornery personality. In addition, family would like to extend its gratitude and appreciation to the caring staff of Harbor Hospice.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Vansant-Mills Funeral Home Clinton.
