Updated Obituary - Margie Pearl Barr

Margie Pearl Barr, 99, formerly of Peculiar, MO passed away on Wednesday, October 21, 2020 at Beautiful Savior in Belton. A service will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville. Interment will follow in Peculiar Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church, Peculiar, MO.

Margie was born June 7, 1921, to parents Alex and Margie (Nelson) Winchel in Freeman, Missouri. She attended Pleasant Ridge (Tad Pole) Elementary and Peculiar High School. On June 5, 1939, she married Albert Bunch from Pleasant Hill, Missouri and together they welcomed two children: James and Margie.

Most of their married life was spent in Overland Park, Kansas and Kansas City, Missouri. As Albert’s health started failing at the age of 42, he had to give up working, which led them to moving back to Peculiar and Margie starting her own business of dress-making and machine quilting. She would tell you that the Lord blessed the business with plenty of work, while making it possible to still work from home. She quilted quilts from all over the United States and sold quilts to people in Canada, Mexico, Germany, England, and of course to those in the States. She tried to work to the best of her ability and thoroughly enjoyed what she did.

On February 14, 1981, she married Olin Barr, which gained her two more sons: Kenneth Barr and Kevin Barr. Olin and Margie both enjoyed getting up early and working. He learned to sew and together they traveled all over, seeing many different states and selling their quilts and crafts. Olin’s health began to fail in 1997, so they moved from Peculiar to Foxwood Springs in Raymore in 1999. Margie accepted Christ as her Savior early in life, although she did not join a church until she was 24. As they moved, her church memberships changed, until finally keeping with First Baptist Church in Peculiar for over 40 years. She knows she could not have survived all of life’s hardships without her faith.

Margie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Albert Bunch; her husband, Olin Barr; her sisters: Flossie, Lucille, Naomi, Ruth, Lavina and Martha; brothers: Earl Lee, Albert Winchel, and Ernest Winchel; and her grandson, Jimmy Bunch. She is survived by her son, James A. Bunch of Las Vegas, NV; her daughter, Margie Sheets of Kansas City, MO; step-sons: Kenneth Barr and Kevin Barr (Tammy); three grandchildren: Lisa Mullins, Angela Thomson, and Kaylee Barr; several great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Elaine Eapenior of Mexico and Marilyn Miller of Wamego, KS.

Her wish is that you not mourn her death, but be happy for the time we had.
