Butler Bears Wrestling News 12/4/20

The Butler High School boys and girls competed and represented their town and school well last night in a triangular dual with Oak Grove and Holden. We ended up splitting the duals 1-1 but not without some drama.

We wrestled Oak Grove to a 42-42 tie and it came down to the tenth tie breaking criteria to give Oak Grove the edge. Oak Grove beat us 60-6 last year, and are typically one of the top teams in Class 2.

Considerable improvement has been made over the past year and first few weeks of the season. The wrestling team followed up with a 33-21 win over Holden with some of our wrestlers stepping up and wrestling a higher weight class to secure the win.

Incredibly proud of the effort and excitement of the boys and girls. While there is a lot of opportunities for improvement this was a great stepping off point for the season. Here are the following results:

Baylor Myers- 1-1 (Wrestled hard)
Ryan Baker- 2-0 (Bumped up to 126 to beat a returning state placer against Holden)
Josh Smith- 1-1 (Great effort)
Brendin Patrick- 2-0 (Picked up right where he left off last year)
Ostin VanVoorst- 2-0 (Business like attitude on the mat tonight)
Gavin Burgess- 1-1 (Solid performance by Gavin)
Tristan Trumbore- 2-0 (This kid doesn’t quit)
Issac Rodriguez- 2-0 (Bumped up to 220 to secure a win for the BHS wrestling team)
Zayne Nuzum - 0-2 (Wrestled hard for young wrestler)
Makayla Reanne Mallat- 1-0
Josie Johnston - 0-1 (Tough first match)

The boys and I couldn’t do this without Jeff Taylor, Andrew Dixon, and Rick White. Thanks for all of your effort in making this thing go.

We look forward to the opportunity ahead of us at the Ray Stockdale Tournament at Knob Knoster this weekend.
