Obituary - Claude E. Jewell Jr.

Claude E. Jewell Jr., age 92, of Belton, Missouri passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 17, 2020, at the Wilshire at Lakewood Care Center, Lee's Summit, Missouri. He had been visited often, personally and virtually by many who loved him dearly.

A visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at St. Sabina Catholic Church, 700 Trevis Ave., Belton, Missouri 64012. A private Rosary and Funeral Mass will be held following visitation. St. Sabina will post the Funeral Mass to their Facebook page. Claude will be laid to rest with his beloved wife Terry at Leavenworth National Cemetery in Leavenworth, Kansas.

Claude was born in St. Louis, Missouri on January 5, 1928 to Claude E. Jewell Sr. and Geraldine M. (Smart) Jewell. He grew up in the Missouri Boot-Heel and with parental permission enlisted in the Navy at the age of 17, in early 1945. After WWII ended, he was honorably discharged after serving his yearlong enlistment in the Navy. Claude then began his proud and continued service to his country, serving another 27 and a half years in the United States Air Force before retiring on August 31, 1973, at the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. Claude was a lifetime member of the Air Force Sergeants Association. In life, Claude was a dedicated and loving husband and father to his wife and children. He was a man of Catholic faith and a member of St. Sabina's Parish for the past 47 years. Claude was a faithful and longtime member of the Knights of Columbus where he was active in the organization and made great material and financial contributions towards the Mission of the Knights. He was an avid fisher early in life and golfer throughout his life, golfing well into his eighties. After the loss of his wife in 1997, Claude began to travel south during the winter months eventually living in the middle of a golf course in Edinburg, TX. As a snowbird, he made many friends who cared and loved him 'down in the Valley'.

Claude was preceded in death by his loving wife of over forty-five years, Lillian 'Terry' Jewell; and parents, Claude and Geraldine Jewell.

He leaves behind his five children, Janet Sanchez (Mike), Susan Gelatko, Jim Jewell (Nancy), Ron Jewell (Julie), and Joann Budde (Eric); fifteen grandchildren, Maria Sanchez, Kristina Sanchez, Michael Gelatko, Thomas Gelatko, Jessica Shaw (Zach), Alexandra Jewell, Ashley Jewell, Jennifer Moenster (Andrew), Sarah Kelly (Brayden), Joseph Jewell, Austin Jewell, Philip Budde (Madeleine), Jewell Budde, Mark Budde, and Eli Budde; and four great grandchildren, Elisabeth, Adrianna, Jacob and Nicholas Moenster; and one great granddaughter 'baby girl' Kelly on the way in January 2021.
