Updated Obituary - Delbert Russell Umstattd

Delbert Russell Umstattd, age 85 of Ballard, Missouri died Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at St. Joseph Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri.  He was born October 28, 1935 to Arthur and Ethel B Greer Umstattd at home in rural Bates County, Missouri.

Delbert, a lifelong resident of Bates County, was one of nine children.  He grew up in Ballard and graduated from Ballard High School in 1953.  On November 4, 1955 he was united in marriage to Shirley Cook and to this union three sons were born.  Delbert began working at General Motors Leeds Plant in Kansas City, Missouri in 1954 retiring in 1985.  He and Shirley then owned and operated U-Stop, a small General store in Ballard, from 1985 to 1998. His memberships included the United Auto Workers and Walnut Grove Presbyterian Church.

Delbert's likes were simple--he enjoyed life on the farm, church on Sundays and being surrounded by family with the love of his children and grandchildren.

Delbert is survived by his wife of 65 years, Shirley of the home; three sons, Doug  and wife Rita of Garden City, Missouri, Kevin and wife Kristy of Butler, Missouri and Allen and wife Amy of Ballard, Missouri; one sister, Ellen Wry of Ballard, Missouri; five grandchildren, Cole Umstattd and wife Brooke, Paige Smalley and husband Elliott, Damon Umstattd, Miles Umstattd and wife Emily and Corbin Umstattd and wife Lauren; eight great-grandchildren, Max, Marlowe, Scarlett, Zoie, Aspen, Eli, Harris, and Destiney. He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers, Arnold, John, Ralph, Donald and C.W.; sister, Delena Robertson and infant sister, Rosalee; and infant great-granddaughters, Emma and Heidi.
