Obituary - Susan Kay Crooks

Susan Kay Crooks, 51, passed away Monday December 15, 2020 at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri. Visitation will be 1-2 PM Monday December 21, 2020. Graveside service to follow at 2:15 PM at Englewood Cemetery Clinton, Missouri. Memorial contributions to the Clinton Church of Christ in care of Vansant-Mills Funeral Home.

Susan lived in Clinton her whole life, the last 14 years as a resident at Westwood Nursing Home. She attended special education classes at Jefferson Park School and eventually graduated from that program.

She was the kindest, most gentle soul you could ever meet, but she did have an ornery streak: When playing catch with her brothers, she liked to throw the ball in the opposite direction and make them chase it. She enjoyed ice cream (anytime day or night! ); pushing a cart through Country Mart with mom and dad; stopping by the Blue Ribbon Bakery for a cinnamon roll; spending time with her "Aunt Helen", eating hot dogs, watching the Royals on TV, or making her own special brand of music at the piano. And of course, at home every Saturday, it was a supper of tacos, followed by Hee-haw and The Grand Ole Opry.

Susan deserved so much more than she found in this world, having had to face the challenges of being born with Downs Syndrome. She will be forever loved and missed by her family and everyone who got the chance to know her.

Susan was preceded in death by her mom, Anna May Crooks, and her dad, Brack Crooks. Susan is survived by two brothers, Jim (& Christy) Crooks of Sedalia, Mo, and Tom "Turkey" Crooks of Grandview, Mo.

Services have been entrusted to Vansant-Mills Funeral Home Clinton, Missouri.
