Obituary - Gordon Lee Graham

Gordon Lee Graham, age 70, Overland Park, Kansas passed away on Friday, February 7, 2020. He was born on January 2, 1950 in Purcell, Oklahoma the son of Gilbert Gordon and Bonnie Mae Buchanan Graham. He graduated from high school and proudly served his country in the United States Army during Vietnam. He earned a bachelor's degree from National American University. 

Gordon was retired from the United States Postal Service and ran Graham's service. He was certified in the trades of HVAC, Plumbing and Electrical. Gordon was united in marriage to Mary Zara Rife in 2008. He was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church of Overland Park. He was a man who truly lived his Christian Faith. 

He was involved in Habitat for Humanity, prison ministry, and taught classes at the church. He is survived by his wife, Mary, two sons, Cory and Jamie, four daughters, Anissa, Michelle, Amanda and Michelle, and twelve grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held 9:30 am Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at the First Southern Baptist Church of Overland Park. Burial will be at 12:30 pm at the Leavenworth National Cemetery. Contributions are suggested to Welcome House of Kansas City. Online condolences can be left at Arrangements: Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Mound City Chapel.

Obituary - Marlo Sue Padley

The funeral service for Marlo will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, February 14, 2020 at Hill and Son Funeral Home in Appleton City, Missouri.

The minister will be Jerry Johannigmeier.

Visitation will be held preceding the service from 1:30 - 2:00 pm at the funeral home.

Interment will be in Myers Cemetery rural Appleton City, Missouri.

The family requests any memorial donations be given to a Family Love Fund.

Obituary - Benjamin Leo “Sonny” Carpenter

Benjamin Leo “Sonny” Carpenter, 51, Pittsburg, KS passed away on Thursday, February 6, 2020. Sonny was born June 7, 1968 in Arkadelphia, AR to Albert Leo and Shirley (Weddell) Carpenter. He married Christina Heckadon and to this union three children were born.

Sonny graduated from Butler High School in 1986. He loved hunting, fishing, listening to music, cooking, and especially spending time with family. He was a jokester, and he enjoyed going on outings to the casino with his mother. Sonny was a very spiritual person who walked to the beat of his own drum. He was fondly known by his close friends and family as Sundance and Sundog.

He is survived by one son, Justin Carpenter (Vanessa), Baytown, TX; two daughters, Melony Harding, Butler, MO, and Valery Carpenter, Gravois Mills, MO; grandchildren Koby Lee Carpenter, Marijane Marie Harding, Brandon Michael Lutjen, Jr., Payton Nicole Lutjen; ; step-grandchildren, Brandon Emmanuel Carpenter, Chrystal Carolina Carpenter, Destiny Lutjen, Jayna Lutjen, Raylynn Lutjen, and Zachary Harding; mother, Shirley Wymore, Nevada; four sisters, Beverly Carpenter, Gallatin, MO, Norma Jean Bledsoe, El Dorado Springs, MO, Sandy Corwine, Amsterdam, MO, and Frances Carpenter, Butler, MO; nieces, nephews, extended family, and a host of special friends.

Memorial services will be held at a later time. “Wakan Takan kici un” (God Bless You).

Burglary Reported In Nevada

Arrest made after weekend shooting in Vernon County

A Nevada, MO man is in custody after a shooting incident that took place Friday night. According to Officials with the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to a report of a possible shooting that took place at East Stockade Rd. 

Sheriff Jason Mosher said one person was transported to the Nevada City Hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg and then transported to Joplin later that night for further treatment. 

The suspect was apprehended a short time later and the suspected weapon was recovered. “Detectives found the suspect in a vehicle at Cash N’ Dash in Nevada and took him into custody without incident.” Sgt. Detective Nick Norval said the victim and the suspect

were believed to be in a disagreement over property the suspect purchased from the victim. The suspect has been identified as 25 year-old Lonnie L. Nall Jr. Nall has been charged with Assault 1st Degree or Attempt, Armed Criminal Action, Unlawful

Possession of a Firearm, Possession of Controlled Substance Except 35 grams or less of marijuana/synthetic cannabinoid, Endangering the Welfare of a Child involving Drugs 1st Degree 1st Offense, and Unlawful Use of Weapon and is being held in the Vernon County Jail on a $200,000 cash only bond.

Just before 0800 this morning (2/10/2020) I was called by the Bates County Sheriff’s Office and Missouri State Highway Patrol to County Road 1002 East of St. Rt. V in Bates County. 

A vehicle had traveled off the roadway and was discovered in a creek. The driver and lone occupant of the vehicle was deceased.

The decedent is identified as Carson L. Elmer, 18 of Adrian, Missouri. Foul play is not suspected and Mr. Elmer’s death is believed to be accidental in nature.

Prayer Vigil for the family and friends of Carson Elmer set for tonight

We will hold a candlelight Prayer Vigil tonight at 5pm at the Methodist Church in Adrian for anyone in need of pray as you grieve the death of Carson Elmer. 

Carson passed away last night in an accident. Our prayers are with Mark and Melinda Elmer and their family.

Fatality Accident In Bates County

The Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County along with the Bates County Sheriff's Office responded to a one vehicle rollover accident on CR 1002 just east of Route V in rural Bates County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2005 Chevrolet driven by 18 year old Carson L. Elmer of Adrian, Missouri traveled off the roadway and through a fence, the vehicle then struck a tree and overturned on its top in a water filled creek.

Mr. Elmer was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident and he was released to Bates County Coroner Greg Mullinax.   

The vehicle was totaled and towed from the scene of the accident by J's Southland Tow. This is Troop A of the Missouri State Highway Patrol's 6th Fatality accident of 2020.

Snow possible mid week

The extremely wet pattern that began in Oct of 2018 for the KC area continues nearly a year and a half later. Precipitation for this Winter (Dec-Feb) now stands at 4.54"...normal for a entire Winter is 4.12" so we are already above that with 20 days still to go and the rest of Feb looks wet! The next chance for precipitation will come Tuesday night into Wednesday.

Today will feature partly to mostly cloudy skies with near normal highs in the upper 30s to low 40s. Similar conditions are expected on Tuesday with increasing clouds later in the day. Snow is expected to develop overnight Tuesday into Wednesday. Minor accumulations of slushy snow will be possible mainly along and south of the Missouri River.
