The 29th Annual Montrose Festival will be Memorial Weekend, May 28-30, 2021. They will be celebrating Montrose’s deep history and traditions throughout the weekend. Nothing highlights that more than their theme, “150 Years of Cheers, Tears & Beers!” Friday evening will be the Old Timers baseball games at the park as well as the Kids Color Run at 7:15 p.m., Adult Color Run at 8:00 p.m. and Montrose Mile at 9:00 p.m. (no ATV’s are allowed during the Color Run, only authorized golf carts). Saturday will start with a baking contest at the VFW 9:00 a.m. and 10:00judging. The 17th annual car show begins at 9:00 a.m. with a DJ provided, bake sale at 9:00 a.m.in the community building, vendors and crafters and Museum open at 9:00 a.m. Diaper Derby (0-18 mos.) at 9:00 a.m. and toddler swimsuit (19 mos-5 yrs.) following the diaper derby. There will be a $2.00 participation fee. Bingo will be held 10:00 – noon and a pictorial stamp cancellation 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. For the kids, Sprinkles the clown will be back, as well as bounce houses, corn boxes, pony rides, petting zoo, train rides, Ted E. Bear Toy Factory and kids games. Beard and mustache contest at noon. Knights of Columbus will ice cream all day. The announcement of this year's Home Town Hero is at 12:30. Children’s parade starts at 12:45 p.m. and the grand parade begins at 1:00 p.m. with registration at the Montrose High School 10:00 – 12:30. Following the parade, will the annual Fried Chicken Dinner 2:00 – 7:00 p.m. a pie and wine auction at 2:00, wine tasting 3:00-7:00 and VFW #8820 beer stand 2:00 p.m. Corn Hole tournament at 3:30 p.m. For your evening pleasure, “Members Only Band” from Springfield, will entertain 9:00 p.m.-midnight. Fireworks display at 10:00. On Sunday, softball starts at noon. There will be beer olympics at 5:00 p.m., along with eveningentertainment. The ACHS Senior Class panels for special anniversary years are available for viewing at the Farm House Restaurant. Featured classes are 50 year-1971; 60 year-1961, 65 year-1956, and 70 year-1957. The Appleton City Museum provides these each year for viewing and the Farm House Restaurant graciously allows the panels there for their customers to enjoy.

The Appleton City Fair/Sesquicentennial will be held Thursday-Sunday, August 12-15. Most previous events are in the planning and a tentative schedule will be released. A new carnival was able to be secured. The original carnival was cancelled due to the death of the owner. Start making your SQC outfits. One major change is the parade will be late Saturday afternoon.

SQC Committee is looking for pictures of all AC Mayors, preferably at the time they served. Pictures may be left at City Hall.

The Appleton City Public Library is seeking assistance with teachers for their Summer Reading Program. The program will take place on Tuesdays in June (June 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29) as well as Tuesday, July 6, from 11:00 a.m.-noon. The teacher would need to read a couple books with the children as well as assist them in completing a corresponding activity. All materials will be provided. Free private tennis lessons are offered to all current or former players and anyone who want to improve their technique or strategies or first time players. People of almost any age and skills can learn to play tennis. Lessons are held at the tennis courts at Donnohue-Dugan Park starting the week of May 24. Rackets and balls will be provided. Open tennis is every day 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tennis is exercise that is fun!

Farmhouse Kitchen and Sumos Pub will be closed Tuesday, June 1.

Appleton City Second June Saturdays will be held on Main Street Saturday, June 12, 2021 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. There will also be a BBQ contest during this event. The Knights of Columbus will resume their monthly pancake and sausage breakfast at the Knight’s Hall in Montrose on Sunday, June 13 from 8:30 – 10:00 a.m. Treat your family to a hot breakfast you don’t have to cook or clean up. A free will donation will be greatly appreciated

The Yellow Rosebud Cemetery Project at the AC Cemetery will again need volunteers Wednesday, June 2, at 9:00 a.m. or rain date of Thursday June 3, 9:00 a.m. to pick up the rosebuds.
