Obituary - Gerald E. Choate

Gerald (Jerry) E. Choate, age 93, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at Lee’s Summit, Medical Center.

No services will be held, but Jerry will be buried at Wills Cemetery in Peculiar, Missouri.

Jerry was born in Springfield, Missouri on April 20, 1928 to Douglas Choate and Dora (Holsinger) Choate. After graduating high school Jerry enlisted for military service with the United States Marines. In the summer of 1952, he was joined in marriage with his wife Mildred on July 26th. Together they were blessed with four children, Marilyn, Ronald, Leisa, and Rochelle. Jerry worked for forty years as a mechanic for TWA. In life he enjoyed coaching little league baseball and was one of the founders of a new youth baseball league in Clay/Platte counties. He also enjoyed camping and took his family all over the western US on camping trips. Later in life, he took up golf and participated in golf leagues. Jerry was happiest when he was fixing things and loved to help others when needed.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents Douglas and Dora Choate; three brothers, Jim, David, and Lawrence Choate; and two sisters, Esther Foster and Myrtle “Pat” Priser.

He is survived by his wife of sixty-eight years, Mildred Choate; son Ronald Choate (Julie); three daughters, Marilyn Davis (John), Leisa Porter (Ted), and Rochelle Graf (Joe); nine grandchildren, Amanda Ford (Andrew), Emily Davis, Laura Devereaux (Michael), Andrew Choate, Jeremy Porter (Kristine), Ryan Porter, Justin Graf, Melissa Graf, and Angela Graf; and three great grandchildren, Evie Porter, Jack Porter, and Maisie Ford.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to The Parkinson Foundation of the Heartland, 13451 Briar St. Suite 202, Leawood, Kansas 66209 .
