Pittsburg Kansas man arrested on sex crimes

On July 1, 2021, at approximately 5:15 p.m., 59-year-old Gerald Laverne Simmons of Pittsburg, turned himself in to detectives with the Pittsburg Police Department. Simmons was taken into custody as the result of a swift investigation initiated on June 29, 2021, where Simmons was accused of inappropriate sexual contact with children under 14 years of age. This sexual contact is alleged to have occurred over the course of the past two years.

Subsequent to his arrest, Simmons was transported to the Crawford County Jail where he was booked in. Charges will be requested from the Crawford County Attorney’s Office for Simmons to be charged with nine counts of Rape of a Child under the age of 14; three counts of Aggravated Criminal Sodomy of a Child under the age of 14; twenty-four counts of Aggravated Indecent Solicitation of a Child under the age of 14; twelve counts of Aggravated Indecent Liberties with a Child under the age of 14; and four counts of Aggravated Endangering of a Child. Simmons is currently being held in lieu of a $100,000 bond.
