Update: Two police pursuits in Bates County

On 7/20/21 at approximately 1130pm deputies were called to assist the Missouri Highway Patrol with a vehicle pursuit. The vehicle was southbound on I-49 and had entered Bates County.

Deputies responded to the north end of the county to intercept the pursuit when they were notified that the vehicle had stopped in the fast lane just north of AA highway.

On arrival deputies advised the subject was refusing to exit the vehicle and comply with commands. A short time later the subject exited the vehicle and was taken into custody without incident. The subject was transported to Cass County by the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

A few hours later, on 7/21/21 at approximately 0330 hrs. Bates County was notified that Cass County was in pursuit of a truck hauling two motorcycles southbound on I49. Sometime prior to entering Bates County the truck lost the trailer but continued southbound into Bates County. Deputies entered the pursuit just north of Adrian. South of Adrian the truck crossed the median and began driving southbound in the northbound lane.

The truck then crossed the shoulder of I49 and drove through the outer road fencing onto the outer road. The vehicle then traveled south onto county road 1503. At the intersection of Cr1503 and 8004 the vehicle failed to make the turn and entered into the cornfield where the occupants fled on foot.

Additional deputies were called from home to help search for the subjects. Text caster was sent out to alert citizens to lock their cars to prevent the subjects from stealing a car in the area.

This morning deputies received a call from a citizen that there was a male subject walking and the witness saw a car pick the person up. A description of the vehicle was given to deputies who later found the vehicle and made a traffic stop on it.

One male subject was taken into custody and admitted to being a passenger in the truck. The driver of the vehicle has not been located.

The vehicle was towed from the scene. This pursuit is still under investigation and charges maybe sent to the prosecutor when completed.
