Hume area news

September 27th:

On September 19th a benefit fundraiser was held for Dane Schmid, son of Nicholas and Anna Schmid of Hume at the Legion Hall. Dane is a 5th grader at Hume R-8 School and was recently diagnosed with cerebral palsy among other issues that he has endured. The proceeds from the spaghetti dinner will be used to help with expenses for traveling back and forth to Kansas City for appointments daily. Get your Festive Fall Porches decorated! The Hume Garden Club will be getting around the Hume area the next few weeks to select three of their favorite decorated porches/front yard. By October 20, there will be a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place selected for a small prize each. Hope we see a lot of fun and beautiful décor!

The Hume Fair Legion Hall Committee has met and has begun making plans for the 2022 Hume Fair exhibits. Each year there is a special collection for the Hume Fair to be entered into the hall. In 2022 the special collection will be Coffee Mugs. You may enter up to 4 or 5 old, new, unusual mugs. Use a note card to describe the story behind the mug or a description about the Mug(s)

On October 2nd the Hume Fire Department will be hosting their Annual Chili Cook off at the Hume Legion Hall. There will be two categories this year Hot or Mild. There will also be a pie auction. So make your favorite pie and bring it. The Chili entries need to be there by 5:00 p.m. and dinner starts at 6:00 p.m. There will be a $10.00 entry fee per entry of chili to be judged. There will not be an entry for soup this year, but if you just want to share your soup that would be fine. It will be a free-will donation. Contact Adam Swarens or Vicki Gwinn for more information.

On October 3rd there will be a fundraiser at the Hume Legion Hall for Nick Shepherd who was recently diagnosed with Leukemia. Starting at 11:00 a.m. there will be Walking Tacos (free will donation) lunch and the Silent Auction will begin. At 12:15 p.m. you can sign up for the Corn hole tournament which will begin at 1:00 p.m. At 2:00 p.m. the Silent Auction winners will be announced, you do not need to be present to win. They would appreciate any items you would like to donate for the Silent Auction.

Kids Klub got under way at the Hume United Methodist Church on Wednesday, September 29 at the Hume United Methodist Church. We are excited to have this once again. It will be every Wednesday after school until 4:30 p.m. We look forward to seeing all the kiddos!
