Obituary - C. Wayne Johnson

C. Wayne Johnson, age 88, of Clinton, Missouri passed away on Sunday, September 19, 2021 at Clinton Healthcare and Rehab Center in Clinton, Missouri. Wayne will Lie in State from 9:00 AM- 12:00 PM Friday, September 24, 2021 at Vansant-Mills Chapel, Clinton. 

A graveside service will follow at 1:00 PM at Vansant Road Cemetery in Clinton, Missouri. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Good Shepard Hospice or Seeds of Faith Preschool and can be left in care of the funeral home. Wayne Johnson (88) was born on May 30, 1933 to Walter H. Johnson Sr. and Ruby Odle Johnson near Montrose, Missouri where he lived all of his early life. He graduated from Montrose High School in 1951. Wayne started out working at John Deere and was then drafted into the Army during the Korean War. After returning from the service he pursued many interests, including dozer work, running dump trucks, and construction work. He had farming interest as well including raising hogs, and baling hay.

August 9, 1964 Wayne was united in marriage to Norma J. (Huey) Woods. To this union one child was born Gary. Wayne also raised Norma’s three children from a previous marriage as his own, Kristi, Kim, and Terry.

Wayne’s passion in later years was working in his garden, after work this was his way of relaxing. Anyone who ever saw his garden would never forget it, as a weed would never dare enter. Another of his hobbies was baking pies and around the holidays loved to make homemade candy. Wayne always enjoyed sharing his garden bounty, pies and candy with family and friends. Wayne also spent a lot of time in later years helping his son Gary on the farm, Wayne was able to continue this until he was 83.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Walter Jr., and Willard, and one sister Mary Evelyn Hendrick.

Wayne is survived by his wife of 57 years, Norma of the home. Children, Kristi (Merle) Coke, Kim (Chris) Long, Terry (Michelle) Woods, and Gary (Amanda) Johnson. Grandchildren, Amber (Jim) Hanson, April (Robbie) Hills, Crystal (Cody) Lynch, Cody (Brittany) Woods, Rebecca (Dallas) Rogers and Tyler Johnson. As well as 13 great-grandchildren, Matthew, Emma, Sara Grace, Harper, Cohen, Kane, Trinity, Kason, Korbin, Mackenzie, Michael, Lilly, and Austin.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Vansant-Mills Funeral Home in Clinton, Missouri.
