Obituary - Stephen Ray “Steve” Yost

Stephen Ray “Steve” Yost, age 65, of Athens, Alabama passed away Saturday, November 6, 2021 at Athens Limestone Hospital.

Steve was a graduate of Miami High School located in Amoret, Missouri, class of 1976. Right after high school Steve began his career in the construction industry which led him to Yates Center, Kansas where he was able to work his way up to the General Civil Superintendent at Wolf Creek Power Plant. 

He married the love of his life, Joy Leslie Wainscott on September 6, 1977 in Yates Center, Kansas. Steve’s career later took him and his wife to North Carolina where they welcomed a son, Joshua Ray Yost. In 1986, the family moved to Athens, AL when Steve began work at Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant. He worked at the plant for several years before transitioning to work as a contractor for NASA supporting facility maintenance and construction. He gained several awards and more than anything life long friends during this time. After his retirement, he started Yost and Son Construction with his son, Joshua Yost doing home remodeling and rental property renovation/maintenance. 

Steve accomplished much in his life, including foreman, carpenter, coach, father and grandfather. He enjoyed hunting with friends, spending time with family, and most of all spoiling his grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by all that knew and loved him.

Steve is preceded in death by his parents Lonnie and Barbara Yost, sister Verna Haines, and brother Billy Yost. He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 44 years, Joy Leslie Wainscott Yost; son, Joshua R. Yost and wife Hillary; 3 grand-daughters, Piper, Sadie, and Mackenzie; sister and her husband, Michelle and Gene Schroeder and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

A celebration of life is not scheduled at this time, but will be handled at a later date for the family to receive friends and loved ones. There will be a celebration scheduled in his hometown of Butler, MO and another at his long-time home of Athens, AL.
