Obituary - James "Jim" Carroll

James (Jim) Lloyd Carroll (85) was born June 18, 1936 just East of Taberville in St. Clair County, Missouri to Cecil Floyd and Elizabeth Frances Hagan Carroll. He was the third of nine children. He left this life on January 22, 2022 at his home in rural Osceola Mo.

Jim enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1954 where he received his GED. He spent much of his military career in Germany. After returning home he helped his dad cut hedge posts. In the 1960s he worked installing missile cable across the county. During this time he also started working the timber, logging and then owning and operating his own sawmill.

In 1967 he was united in marriage to Viola (Olie) Mae Donahue Haught. She had three children and then they had two sons together.

Jim loved working in the timber and was proud that he passed this love on to his sons. Cecil was never far from Jim if there was logging to be done but the other boys love being outdoors and working in the woods when they can. Jim also had a love of horses and mules. He liked keeping the old ways alive and passing it on to his children and grandchildren. There were lots of impromptu wagon rides over the years and many times a team would be hitched to the wagon for the Labor Day Parade in Osceola.

Jim was an avid storyteller. He liked to be outside under the shade tree in the yard and telling stories about the old days with family and friends. He would often talk about funny situations that he or a friend would find themselves in. He was able to make you feel like you were there with the way that he would spin the tale. He would also talk about the things that he found important in life and passed a lot of knowledge on to his children and grandchildren under that shade tree.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Viola, sisters Helen Lea Hawkins and Maxine Lavern Wilson and three brothers, Archie Dale, Charles Edwin, Johnnie Leroy and a granddaughter Tonya Mae Foster.

Jim is survived by his five children, Ernest Ray Haught (Carla) Mounds, OK., Debbie Sue Haught, Osceola, MO., Johnnie Lee Haught, James (Jimmy) Lloyd Carroll (Cindy) Osceola, MO. And Cecil Keith Carroll of the home. He is also survived by one brother, Leslie Vernon Carroll Weaubleau, MO. and two sisters Linda Lorene Gurley rural Deepwater, MO.
