Two charged in Bates County

Two Bates County residents have been charged as the result of an investigation conducted by the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office at the request of the Bates County Sheriff Chad Anderson.

Vernon County Sheriff Jason Mosher said his office received a request from Sheriff Anderson to investigate a report of sexual assault that was reported to his office. Mosher said one of the subjects named in the complaint was an employee of the county and Sheriff Anderson wanted an independent investigation conducted.

Sheriff Anderson said "I appreciate the relationship we have with Vernon County Sheriff's Office. Being able to request an outside agency for these types of reports is important to the integrity of the case and builds trust in the community.”

The suspects have been identified and charged with the following: Kyle B Mallatt, 38 of Butler, Missouri. Sodomy or Attempted Sodomy 1st Degree and Sodomy 2nd degree. Bond set at $10,000

Rachelle L Mallatt, 37 of Butler, Missouri. Hindering Prosecution of Felony and Tampering With a Witness in a Felony Prosecution. Bond set at $4,500.

Both Kyle and Rachelle turned themselves in to authorities and were released after posting bond until the scheduled court hearing.
