The accident occurred when the deputy, traveling west, failed to yield to a stop sign when crossing the southbound lane of Highway 13 and was struck by a southbound tractor trailer.
The deputy was transported to Golden Valley Hospital by ambulance. The deputy was treated and released with minor injuries and is expected to make a full recovery.
The truck driver was not injured. Sheriff Hilty said, "This will prompt additional drivers training for our agency and the deputy will be disciplined according to our policies. We are fortunate no one was seriously injured.
I would like to thank the citizens for the many calls and messages with concern and prayers for the deputies' well bring. We learn from our mistakes, which will, in the end, make us better at serving our communities while being transparent with the citizens we serve."
