Clinton High School names new head football coach

Clinton High School is proud to announce it has selected Cody Carlson as its next Head Football Coach.

Coach Carlson brings years of coaching experience and success to our Cardinals. Cody is currently a part of the football, basketball, and track coaching programs at Great Bend High School in Great Bend, KS.

During his six years with the football program, the team accumulated 6 playoff wins, a conference championship, final four and final eight appearances. Prior to coaching at Great Bend, Coach Carlson spent two years with the Truman High School football program, helping the team see two playoff wins, including the first in team history.
Coach Carlson was a stand-out athlete both in high school and college. During high school, he was a 3-sport athlete (football, basketball and track) at Eudora High School.

He had the opportunity to play under future Hall of Fame Coach, Gregg Webb and went 31-10 during his high school football career. Cody continued seeing success during his years as a student-athlete at Northwest Missouri State University. He was part of the two-time Division 2 National Championship teams, and three-time MIAA Conference Championship teams.

As a two-year starter, Cody helped the team amass a record of 25-3, was an anchor on the offensive line for the team’s perfect season in 2013, and earned multiple First Team All-American honors. Cody earned a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education from Northwest Missouri State and a Masters in Educational Administration from Fort Hays State University.

Alex Johnson, Clinton Activities Director says, “When you are building an ALL IN culture of excellence, you want people on your team who will walk alongside you in both your mission and vision for the program as a whole. I believe that while Coach Carlson’s pedigree, football knowledge, and experience speak for itself, I’m most excited to see how he grows our student-athletes and programs as human beings both in the classroom and on the field. Welcome Coach Carlson!”

Coach Carlson, his wife, Kathryn, and daughter, Morgan, are looking forward to joining the Clinton community and school district. “I'm extremely thankful and honored to be the head coach of the Clinton Cardinals Football team. Clinton checks all the boxes for my family and I. Beautiful town, supportive community, hard working kids, and great administrators.

After meeting with the team last Friday, I can't wait to get this season started. Our main focus this summer will be committing to the weight room, to improve our speed, strength and toughness. We are going to work hard to give this community something to be proud of come this fall.”

Help us welcome Coach Carlson and his family to our Cardinal family!
