Norma Jean was the first child born to Kenneth Eugene (Gene) and Eula (Mosier) White on May 7, 1937, in Appleton City, Missouri. She was the proud older sister of Darlene Harrison and Sharon Wagner.

Norma attended school in Appleton City, Kansas City and graduated from Clinton High School in 1955. After graduation she attended the University of Central Missouri before transferring to the University of Missouri in Columbia to complete her degree in Education in 1959. She returned to Clinton where she taught 7th and 8th grade math at Clinton Jr High. She soon met Cecil F. Harmon on a bowling date while he was in the area working as a boiler maker at the Montrose Power Plant. They married on May 28, 1960 and had two children Celia and Joel.

After teaching, she ran the family farm and joined Cecil in the family business, White Sheet Metal and then Harmon Sheet Metal. In retirement they were active in running the Pickinpatch, loving on their grandkids and traveling.

Norma accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior at a church revival and was baptized on January 23, 1949 at First Baptist Church where she remained a member for 73 years. Norma loved to worship the Lord through music of all kinds and made sure her children and grandchildren had that opportunity.

Norma was active in the Twilight Garden Club for over 30 years serving as president from 2000-2001 and the Missouri Cattlewomen’s Association, the CowBelles, serving as president. She had many hobbies and loved to teach them: gardening, painting, china painting, fused glass, quilting and baskets.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents, and husband Cecil. She is survived by her daughter, Celia Harmon of Clinton, son Joel Harmon (Rose) of Clinton and granddaughters, Cheyenne Harmon (Andrew) of Floresville, TX and Sheridan Houk (Josh) of Clinton. She also loved her grandsons by choice; Keelly Jones of Chicago, IL and Kade Jones of Sedalia. She is also survived by her sisters, Darlene Harrison of Clinton and Sharon Wagner (Joe) of Lee’s Summit. Norma was excited to be a “great grandmother in waiting” of little Ailah Jean Houk due in October. She and Cecil also have numerous nieces and nephews they loved dearly. The family is eternally grateful to Mackenzie Bond for her wonderful companionship and loving care of Norma for the past 4 years; she and her family are now our family.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Vansant-Mills Funeral Home in Clinton, Missouri.
