Bill was born on Aug. 10, 1965, in Kansas City, Missouri to Billy and Norma Jean Mayo. He spent most of his life in Grandview and was a participant in the ride along program with the Grandview Police Department before enlisting in the Army and serving from 1983-1987. During his enlistment he earned awards for Grenade Expert and M-16 and .45 caliber pistol Marksman. He was self-employed after leaving the Army.
He was known for his love of animals, especially dogs and rescued many during his life. One of his favorites, Taylor, Baby Taylor as he called her, passed a few years ago and he then took in his latest, Chief.
He had a great sense of humor and the ability to keep people laughing for hours with his jokes. His humor was quick as well as his wit and he had a huge heart for those he cared about. He loved fishing and bird hunting, which he had done from his early teens and loved reading, especially history and about WWII.
He was preceded in death by his father, Billy Mayo and nephew, Shawn Maloney. He is survived by his mother Jean Mayo, sisters Dianne Truitt, Debbie Anderson, Denise Wheeler and husband Jim, and Donna Mayo. There are also nephews Robert Edwards, Michael Maloney, Lane Mayo and Logan Mayo, and nieces Angela Wheeler, and Lily Mayo. There are also several great nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that you give a donation to your local animal rescue in honor of Bill.
