Evelyn Lucille Kohler, 90, of Harrisonville, Missouri passed away Saturday, July 23, 2022 at the Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, MO. Services will be held Friday, July 29, 2022, at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville; Visitation from 9:00-11:00 a.m. with Eastern Star Service at 11:00 and the funeral service to follow. Burial will be in Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville. Contributions may be made to Bayard Chapter #179, Order of Eastern Star, Harrisonville.
Evelyn was born December 17, 1931, at the family home, 1004 Main St. in Harrisonville. She was a daughter of Elmer Daniel and Alice Belle (Peterson) Leimkuhler , Sr. Evelyn was a lifelong Harrisonville resident, attended grade school in Harrisonville and was a 1949 graduate of Harrisonville High School. She was united in marriage to Neil Gordon Kohler July 30, 1950, at the Harrisonville First Baptist Church and was married nearly 65 years before Neil’s passing on July 2, 2015.
Evelyn worked as a secretary for Crouch, Crouch, Spangler, Douglas law firm from 1950 to 1968, and an administrative assistant for Marion Laboratory/Marion Merrell Dow in Kansas City until her retirement in 1992. She was a member of the Harrisonville First Baptist Church since 1949, a member and past matron of Bayard Chapter #179, Order of Eastern Star in Harrisonville, and a life member of the Cass County Historical Society. Evelyn also provided support to many other clubs, groups and organizations, including the launch of Water District #9 to provide rural water to many families and farms in the county.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Neil; a brother, Elmer D. Jr.; and a granddaughter, Angela Rudd. She is survived by a son, Michael “Mike” Kohler (Vicki) Harrisonville; three daughters: Elaine Strid (Eldon), Raymore, MO; Angela Breedlove (Todd), Overland Park, KS; and Janeen Olmos (Alex), Lenexa, KS; a sister, Elinor Chancellor, Raymore; a brother-in-law, Donald Kohler, Harrisonville; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Lindley, Chillicothe, MO; nine grandchildren: Michael Rudd, Jody Smith (Larry), Matthew “Matt” Kohler (Amber), Sarah Galatta (Aboma), Amanda Higgins (Brenton), Addison Breedlove, Jessica Fisch, Roman Fisch, and Dominic Olmos; nine great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins; and other relatives and friends.
