Virgil “Duane” Hansen, 95, Raymore, MO, formerly of Harrisonville, MO, passed away Saturday, August 6, 2022 at Foxwood Springs Living Center in Raymore. A visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 10, 2022 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, MO with graveside services at 11:30 a.m. in Wills Cemetery, Peculiar, MO.
Duane was born September 16, 1926 in Milo, MO, a son of Charles Virgil and Zeola Beulah (Smith) Hansen. He married Marjorie Ruth Ensor on February 14, 1944 in Ft. Scott, KS. Duane and Marjorie lived in Walker, Nevada, and Independence, MO, before moving to Harrisonville in 1984. Duane has resided at Foxwood Springs Senior Care for the last eight years.
Duane was a U. S. Merchant Marine veteran, serving during WWII. He worked for ABF Freight Lines as an over-the-road driver for 38 years before retiring, and was a member of Local #41 Teamsters Union. He was a member of Mt. Washington Methodist Church in Independence, MO.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 64 years, Marjorie, on September 28, 2008, one son, Gary Duane Hansen, and one sister, Ann Floyd. He is survived by one daughter, Shirley Maid and her husband, Philip, Harrisonville, MO; daughter-in-law, Sharon Hansen, Adrian, MO; 5 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-great-grandchild; many nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
