Obituary - Joan Urton

Joan Urton, 83, of Naples, FL went to be with Jesus in the early hours of Tuesday morning, August 2nd, 2022 at Physicians Regional Hospital in Naples, FL with her long time care giver and son Paul Scrogham by her side.

Joan was born March 26, 1939 in Gettysburg, South Dakota. She was the daughter of Author Moore and Gertrude Lucille (McCoy) Moore. She grew up the youngest of four girls. Sister’s Lucille (Roy) Whitney, Darlene (Ross) Tompkins, and Carol Moore. She graduate from Gettysburg High School with the class of 1957.

Joan moved to the Naples, FL area in 2016. She was formerly from Grove, Oklahoma area where she moved in the early 80’s after living in Butler, Missouri moving there in the early 1960’s from South Dakota.

Joan raised three son’s while in Butler, MO. Kevin (Barb) Scrogham of Butler, MO. Jeff (Dana) Scrogham of Adrian, MO. And Paul Scrogham (Jim Shafer) of Naples, FL. Grandchildren include Kristin, Kevin Jr., Dustin, Devon, Brian Shane, and David.

Joan also was a step-mom to three, Karen, Frank, and Susan and step-grandma to all of their children. I believe each of you know how much she loved and cared about you.

Joan, while in Butler worked many jobs, mostly in food services area for years. Many may remember her from places like Glenn’s Cafe, J & J’s Cafe, South Side Cafe, Norma’s Cafe and the Snack Bar at the Bates County Memorial Hospital. Also helping out at the Concession Stands at all of the ball fields, plus Cub Scouts and other adventures of three boys. She also worked at the Hospital for several years in the Respiratory Therapy Department. Later she was a clerk at Walmart of Butler and transferred to Walmart of Grove, OK.

Joan loved spending time with family and friends. Enjoyed visiting with friends at Red-Rock-Resort and Grand Lake Casino. Learned to be a fisherman on the Grand Lake of the Cherokee’s. Loved her many pet cat’s and dog’s over the years.

Joan was proceeded in death by her parent’s Author & Gertrude Moore. Her Sister Lucille and Brother In-Law Roy Whitney. Bother In-Law Ross Tompkins. And Sister Carol Moore.

Joan’s wishes were to be cremated. Interment at a later date in Gettysburg, SD
