Obituary - Terrel (Terry) Dwayne Higgins

Terrel (Terry) Dwayne Higgins, age 75, of Belton, Missouri, passed away peacefully with his family by his side at home on August 14, 2022.

A Celebration of his Life will take place 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, October 6, 2022 at Cullen Funeral Home, 612 W. Foxwood Dr., Raymore, Missouri. A private family burial will take place at Belton Cemetery.

Terry was born in Kansas City, Missouri, on September 1, 1946, to his parents, Eugene and Evelyn Higgins. He was their first child and only son. Terry was a lifelong resident of Belton and attended Belton schools, graduating in 1965. He joined the Army in April 1966, served in Germany and Vietnam, and was honorably discharged in April 1972. 

He married his wife, Jeanne in 1970 and together they had three children, Cathy, Joseph (JT), and Christopher. Terry enjoyed all sports, especially baseball and golf. He volunteered for the Belton Baseball Association as a coach, umpire, commissioner, and ran the concession stand. 

He enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play baseball. He loved to golf and played as often as he could with friends. In retirement, he and Jeanne became snowbirds and traveled to Arizona every winter with their 5th wheel trailer where they camp hosted, and Terry was able to golf.

Terry was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Evelyn Higgins; a sister, Loretta Higgins; a son, Christopher Higgins; and a grandson, Christopher Hayes.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Jeanne Higgins; daughter, Cathy Holland; son, Joseph (JT) Higgins II; five grandchildren, Brooke, Derek, Amber, Shannon, and Anthony; two great grandchildren, Ru and Aubree; two sisters, Sheila Strong and Janet Lee; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends.
