Connie was born on July 9, 1949 in Butler, Missouri the daughter of Virgil F. and Geraldine Berry Skaggs. Connie worked as a waitress from the age of 15 until she retired in 2010 due to health reasons. Connie took great pride in being a loving and devoted mother to each of her children. She enjoyed Fridays when Lathe would pick her up and take her to lunch, they would eat at the park, and then go for a ride. She would call Bobby every day reminding him that Wheel of Fortune was on. She loved visits with Rexanna and Kelly, and when Kim would bring her a plate of food. Even though most of the time we found out that she gave the food to someone else, she still got to see Kim. The only thing better than being a mother in Connie’s eyes, was being a grandmother. She loved her grandchildren and asked about them often. She also had a love for Elvis Presley and John Wayne. In her younger years, she always had country music playing, Hello Walls was her favorite song by far. Connie was funny and onery but she was also the kindest, sweetest lady. She always found a reason to make a daily trip to the Dollar General Store.

When Connie could no longer live on her own, she got to live with her sister in adjoining rooms, making the transition just a little easier. Even when she could no longer walk, by God she did, she was a fighter! Connie was always telling you she prayed for you. She accepted God and was baptized at a young age. She is going to love heaven and being pain free.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers Gene Skaggs, Jerry Skaggs, and Charles (Chuck) Skaggs, brother-in-law Del Crow, and sister-in-law Lynda Skaggs.

Survivors include her children, Kelly Freed (John), Rexanna Grindley, Kim Abney (Kenny Mannon), Robert Rogers, Lathe Mayfield (Carrie), grandchildren, Michael Berwald (Amber), Niki Jackson, Adam Abney, Aaron Abney, great grandchildren Rokki Jackson Wahmhoff, Elijah (Eli) Abney, Isiah Abney, Emanuel Abney, Wilder Abney, sisters, Betty Dubray, Rene Crow, Sue Shaffer (Dean), brothers Jimmy Skaggs, and Berry Skaggs (Emleta), along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.
