Obituary - Elaine Tillman

Elaine Tillman passed away on Monday, September 12, 2022 in Scottsdale, Arizona. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 15, 2022 at the First Presbyterian Church in Clinton, Missouri with visitation from 10-11:00 AM prior to the service. 

A private burial will be held later in Englewood Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the P.E.O. Scholarship Fund and can be left in care of the funeral home.

Carol Elaine Bininger was born January 24, 1937 in Cleveland Heights, OH as the middle daughter of the Reverend Dr. Clem Bininger and Carolyn Bininger. As a preacher’s kid, Elaine grew up in OH, VA and MO. She graduated from Southwest High School in Kansas City and the University of Missouri in Columbia.

Elaine met Jim Tillman at Mizzou and married shortly after graduation in 1959. She was a devoted wife of 62 years and loving mother to Rob and Carol. Elaine enjoyed teaching kindergarten and first grade for over 25 years in IL and CA. Elaine was known for her sweet smile, infectious laugh, warm hugs and kind words for friends and strangers.

After retirement, Elaine and Jim enjoyed living in Clinton, MO where they were active in the community. Elaine enjoyed singing in the choir at the First Presbyterian Church and supporting women’s education scholarships as a P.E.O. philanthropy member.

Elaine and Jim moved to Scottsdale in 2021 to live closer to their children. Elaine was preceded in death by Jim, who passed away 6/24/2022 as well as her sister Barbara Hyatt, brother Bob Bininger and parents. She is survived by her sister-in-law Linda Wilson, daughter Carol Tillman, son Rob, daughter-in-law Jan and three granddaughters; Katie, Haley and Brooke Tillman.

Family and friends have appreciated the time spent with Elaine and Jim and are pleased they are reunited and at peace in heaven with our Lord.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Vansant-Mills Funeral Home in Clinton, Missouri.
