Construction worker struck and killed in Cass County

On October 8th around 1:31 a.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Cass County along with Cass County Sheriff's Deputies, Peculiar Police Department and Western Peculiar Fire Protection District responded to a report of a construction worker struck and killed on northbound I-49 near mile marker 169.6 near Peculiar.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when a 2010 Ford F-150 struck a construction worker in a work zone. The driver of the truck fled on foot and wasn't captured.

The construction worker who was identified as 35 year old Jonathon K. Wilson of Kansas City, Missouri was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

This is Troop A of the Missouri State Highway Patrol's 56th fatality of the year 2022.

The area was closed for five hours before re-opening.
