Obituary - Marilyn Gover

Marilyn Gover, age 94, passed away on Monday, October 24, 2022 at Adair Village in Clinton, Missouri. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, October 31, 2022 at the Clinton Christian Church in Clinton, Missouri with visitation one hour prior to the service. Inurnment to follow in Englewood Cemetery in Clinton. Memorial contributions can be made to the Clinton Christian Church and can be left in care of the funeral home.

Marilyn was born October 14, 1928, in Clinton Missouri to John and Byrna Adair. She met her future husband, Vance Gover, her seventh grade year when he moved from Deepwater to Clinton. After graduating from Clinton High School in 1946, she attended Lindenwood University. Vance joined the Air Force. They were married on June 19, 1949 and they were stationed in Germany and traveled throughout Europe extensively while Vance was in the service. 

They lived in several states upon returning from overseas when he was still in the service and then returned to make Clinton their home. Together they enjoyed traveling, a love for music, sang in the Christian Church choir, dancing with each other and golf because of Vance’s interest. She said the light of their lives was their son, Glenn, and grand-daughter, Emma. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary before Vance passed away on April 21, 2015.

Marilyn’s passions were her church, clubs, friends and family. She was a lifetime member of the Christian Church. She belonged to DAR, Lorna Kemper Club, Henry County Museum and was one of the three founders of PAWS. She belonged to three bridge clubs and loved her doll collection, swimming, and entertaining friends in their home.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her sister Peggy Adair (1922-1939).

Marilyn is survived by her son, Glenn Gover, of Clinton and her granddaughter, Emma Gover, of University of Arkansas. Also surviving are her sister-in-law Peggy Sherman of Pittsburg, Kansas, niece Jan Correll (Tom) of Pittsburg, Kansas, nephew Keith Sherman (Lupe) of Kansas City, Missouri and two great nieces Kim and Kelly.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Vansant-Mills Funeral Home in Clinton, Missouri.
