Obituary - Dixie Lou Kirk

Dixie Lou Kirk, 91, Raymore, Missouri, passed away Monday, October 31, 2022 at Lenoir Woods in Columbia, Missouri. Funeral services were held on Monday, November 7, 2022 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, Missouri. Burial in Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Alzheimer’s Association.

Dixie was born December 21, 1930 in Kansas City, Missouri, a daughter of Charles Sylvester and Opal Adaline (Wagner) Atkinson. She attended Bills Rural School #90 from 1937 to 1944 and was a 1948 graduate of Harrisonville High School. She was united in marriage to Bill Henry Kirk on January 21, 1965 at the United Methodist Church in Peculiar, MO. Dixie had lived in Peculiar and Raytown, MO before moving to Raymore in 1974.

Dixie earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, MO and had worked towards her Master’s Degree in Education, and taught at the Elementary School in Peculiar, retiring in 1995. She was a member of the Missouri State Teachers Association, and was involved in the PTA, 4-H, and Girl Scouts, while her daughters were growing up. She was a Master China Painter, a member of the Belton Belles, and a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Raymore.

Dixie and Bill loved to travel, had been to Europe, and had driven their RV all over the United States. She loved working in the garden, growing flowers, especially roses, playing the guitar and sewing for the family.

Dixie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill, on October 29, 2012; and a sister, Charlene. She is survived by her daughters: Linda Dean and husband, Dick, of Raymore; and Kimberly Alexander and husband, Scott, of Columbia, MO; two sisters: Marie Fisher of Raymore; and Louise Oringderff of Columbia, MO; four grandchildren: Brian (Lorena) Dean, Greg (Jen) Dean, Jesseca Alexander, and Samantha Alexander; and two great-grandchildren, Mia and Linden.
