Obituary - Jeanne Ann Ackerson

Jeanne Ann (Maring) Ackerson, age 70, of Freeman, Missouri, passed away on Friday, November 18, 2022.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2022 at Cullen Funeral Home, 612 W. Foxwood Dr. Raymore, Missouri 64083. Visitation will begin at 12:00 p.m. followed by a memorial at 1:00 p.m.

Born on August 21, 1952 in Wichita, Kansas, Jeanne was the third youngest daughter of four to Lloyd E. Maring and Faye (Prothero) Maring. After graduating high school, Jeanne met her future husband, Craig Ackerson at Phillips University in Enid, Oklahoma. They were married on August 5th in the summer of 1972 in Wichita, Kansas. Jeanne continued her education and eventually received her Master’s degree in History.

Jeanne worked hard during her meaningful career as an educator with the Kansas City School District for twenty years. For the final chapter of her career, Jeanne worked for the U.S. Department of Education starting in 2009 as a Public Affairs Assistant and eventually promoted to the Department’s Press Office in Washington D.C. where she retired this past March 2022.

Jeanne had a great passion for gardening with many plants and flowers being shared among family and friends. She was also passionate about researching and documenting the genealogy of not only her family but all of the families that bond us together.

Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Faye Maring; and two sisters, Sharon Gray and Christine Ott.

Left to cherish her memory and embrace her spirit are her husband of fifty years, Craig Ackerson; her son Scott Ackerson and his wife Krissy Ackerson, their sons Quin and Coen Ackerson as well as her daughter Chandra Ackerson Orthel and two sons Gavin and William Orthel.

Of all the things Jeanne has accomplished over her lifetime, without hesitation she would say her best accomplishments and what she was the most proud of without a doubt was her husband, children and grandsons. Craig and Jeanne spent years building their beautiful home in Freeman, Missouri where the family has created such amazing memories, laughter and love which they have been able to share with so many close family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the University of Kansas Cancer Center online at www.kucancercenter.org
