Obituary - Betty L. Ross

Betty L. Ross, age 84, of Clinton, Missouri passed away on Saturday, December 3, 2022 at Golden Valley Memorial Healthcare in Clinton, Missouri. 

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, December 7, 2022 at the Vansant-Mills Chapel in Clinton with visitation from 10:00-11:00 AM prior to the service. 

Burial to follow in Englewood Cemetery in Clinton, Missouri. Memorial contributions can be made to Golden Valley Hospice and can be left in care of the funeral home.

Betty Lou Ross was born on 12/29/1935 in Clinton MO to Orval and Etheal Roberts. She spent her childhood in the Deer Creek area and attended elementary school at Bernaugh and Deer Creek schoolhouses. She attended high school in Clinton MO and graduated in 1955.

She began her working career in high school at First National Bank in Clinton MO. She later began working at Sartin Bookeeping which later became Kempker Accounting of Clinton MO and worked there for over 40 years. She performed bookkeeping and tax services for many businesses and residents in the Clinton and surrounding area and enjoyed the friends she made throughout her career. During her retirement she worked part time for Cochran bookkeeping in Clinton MO and was Treasurer for several years at Drake’s Chapel church. Betty was a member of Drakes Chapel church for over 70 years.

Betty married Hal Ross of Clinton MO on 9/29/1956. They spent two years in Clinton until Hal was stationed in the service in Sparta, Wi. Betty and Hal returned to Clinton in 1959 and remained until Betty’s passing. Betty enjoyed attending sprint car racing and looked forward to attending the Knoxville Nationals every year for over 50 years. Her favorite driver was Steve Kinser. The past few years she looked forward to watching World of Outlaws sprint car races live at home with Hal through the internet. Betty was a wonderful cook and looked forward to cooking for her family on any occasion. She was best known for her baking and specifically her apple pie. Betty enjoyed many hobbies including cross stitching, knitting, reading, and gathering pecans with her grandkids for her baking.

Those preceding in death were her parents Oval and Etheal Roberts, her brother Bob Roberts of Windsor,MO, and sister Mary Anna Wareham of Clinton, MO.

Betty is survived by her husband of 66 years Hal of the home, and their two children Richard (Christine) Ross of Osage Beach, MO, and her daughter Carolyn Sanders of Clinton, MO., her three grandchildren, Ericka Ross of Lee’s Summit, MO, Lauren Sanders (Joe Meineker) of Clinton, MO, and Myranda Ross of Columbia, MO. Betty was blessed with one great-grand child Juniper Meineker of Clinton, MO.

Betty is also survived by her brother Orval Lee Roberts of Clinton, MO and Shirley Meyer of Clinton, MO. and also many nieces, nephews, and countless other family and friends. During the last nine months of her life Betty was blessed to also have her Caretaker, Christina Walton of Urich, MO to help her recover from several illnesses and ensure Hal was being taken care of every day.

Betty lived and appreciated life every day. Whether it was her work, family or hobbies she found comfort in being busy most all day every day, much as her mother Etheal set the example.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Vansant-Mills Funeral Home in Clinton, Missouri.
