One dead in Miami County Kansas Fatality accident

Osawatomie, Kansas- 

On December 6,2022 at 5:40 P.M. the Miami County Sherriff's Office Communications Center received a 911 phone call reporting a vehicle was in a field off 379th Street, west of 169 Highway and the driver was unresponsive. Emergency personnel were dispatched as an injury accident.

When Deputies arrived, they were able to gain access of the vehicle and remove the driver identified as Kay L. Buie, 73 of Rantoul, Kansas. Deputies began CPR on Buie until Miami County EMS arrived. Buie was pronounced deceased at the scene.

A preliminary investigation had determined that the vehicle, a 1994 Chevrolet pickup was traveling west on 379th Street, west of 169 Highway when it gradually went off the roadway on the right side, went through a fence, and into a tree where it came to it's final rest. 

The vehicle was approximately 50 yards off the roadway and Buie was the only occupant. A prior medical condition may be a factor in the crash.

The crash continues to be investigated by the Miami County Sherriff's Office and the Johnson County Sherriff's Office. Osawatomie Fire Department responded to assist at the scene.
